Dave Rahardja<p>This is a world-first long-form inside look at the manufacturing process of RS Watanabe wheels, and it is an exquisite look at craftsmanship.</p><p>If you’re into <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/cars" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cars</span></a> and especially JDM tuners, you would probably have seen RS Watanabe wheels. These iconic, rough-finished, racing-grade wheels are highly desirable, and lead times for them can be years long.</p><p>Looking at this documentary, you can see why: these aluminum and magnesium wheels are still individually sand-cast, machined, drilled, and custom-offset BY HAND. They do this not because it’s fast, but because it produces one-of-a-kind, bespoke wheels of high quality.</p><p>Despite the labor-intensive process, these wheels are reasonably priced: most are well below $1000 apiece, which is a bargain in the world of bespoke wheels.</p><p>Anyway, watch this if you like seeing people MAKE wonderful things with their hands.</p><p><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/craftsmanship" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>craftsmanship</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/manufacturing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>manufacturing</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/factory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>factory</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWhimSwbxE4" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">youtube.com/watch?v=TWhimSwbxE4</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p>
