The final entry of Lucio Fulci's The Gates of Hell trilogy is The House by the Cemetery. It's the one that the fewest people stick up for as their favorite compared to the guts-barfing City of the Living Dead or the really moody The Beyond. Still... S'alright.

wp.me · The House by the Cemetery (1981)Alrighty, here we are, dear Enemaniacs – the end of B-Movie Enema’s trip through Lucio Fulci’s Gates of Hell trilogy. The House by the Cemetery is a peculiar flick. It is the type…

Lucio Fulci and writer Dardano Sacchetti got inspired by H.P. Lovecraft and made 1980's City of the Living Dead. It's also the first of Fulci's The Gates of Hell trilogy. However, this one is so Italian it ends on a massive question mark. Still... It's pretty effective.

wp.me · City of the Living Dead (1980)Fulci is back yet again on B-Movie Enema. Why? Because ol’ Lucio needs more attention if I’m being honest. Sure, I’ve covered many of his movies in the past, but there are oh so m…

1988's Aenigma is a mostly interesting Italian spookfest. In fact, it's one of the more likable Lucio Fulci films from the later part of his career. At least from my perspective.

Mail day!

Straight from Arrow Video: Don’t Torture a Duckling, fresh out of the oven in glorious 4K!

At the start of the year, I told myself I’d cut back on BD-to-UHD upgrades and focus on buying movies I don’t already own. But hey, there are always exceptions – for example, Fulci and other Italian gore masters need to be in the best possible format. If nothing else, just to show some support.

That said, I think most 4K releases don’t actually look that much better than Blu-ray, so it’s not always worth throwing money at UHD upgrades, especially when you could be picking up new flicks instead. Otherwise, you risk getting stuck in an endless upgrade cycle.

I still remember when the Blu-ray format hit the market. The jump from DVD (let alone VHS) to full HD was a massive leap, and movies genuinely looked so much better. Now, the difference between 1080p and 2160p in 4K is noticeably smaller… especially when it’s a half-assed cash grab.

That said, hats off to Second Sight, Severin, Arrow, and the rest who actually put time and effort into proper restorations.

Finally cracked open Cauldron Films’ The Houses of Doom box set and treated myself to a Fulci double feature: The Sweet House of Horrors (1989) and The House of Clocks (1989), both from Fulci’s later work in 1989, originally made as Italian TV movies.

Sure, these don’t exactly rank among Fulci’s finest, but I gotta admit – they were super entertaining and fun watches.

The Sweet House of Horrors felt like an eerie fairy tale for adults, where a wealthy couple gets brutally murdered (in classic Fulci fashion, meaning no shortage of gore) but then returns from beyond the grave to be with their kids. The House of Clocks follows three young burglars who pick the wrong house to rob, where time itself starts playing all kinds of twisted tricks…

Starring George Hilton and Franco Nero, Massacre Time deserves to be considered among the best of Italian westerns. And this fella, Nino Castelnuovo, steals every one of his scenes—with an unhinged performance that is both intense and unsettling in equal measure. Regia di Lucio Fulci, Massacre Time is also a change of pace from the Adriano Celentano musicals and Franco and Ciccio comedies that defined his early career. Fab!
