I often share "on this day" photos on Instagram and thought I'd share one from this day in 2018 here on Mastodon as well because I had a feeling you were all lacking in some culture right about now. This is Maman outside the Guggenheim, Bilbao. We don't like spiders but we love sculptures like this and we like architecture and modern art too which is why we were there visiting the museum.

A portrait view taken outside a building with a modern architectural design on an overcast day. The building in the background is shaped as if great sheets of metal were wrapped and bent around one another, all of it encased in smaller metal panels that look a little like the scales of some metallic beast from this distance. It's a combination of harsh materials and some flowing areas and still come up to sharp edges and points in places. In the foreground this is an open area paved with pale flagstones and there is a wide set of stone steps leading up to the left away from the building behind. A couple of people are on the steps and there are three more walking across this space in front with two of those passing between the legs of a sculpture that dominates the near view. The sculpture is a spider in form with legs that are long, thin cables or muscles stretching up about ten metres to then arch down a little to the central body of the piece, two spherical cage constructions atop one another, one above, one below the level where the legs join. Within the caged lower part there are metal eggs. The sculpture is a nightmare vision of an arachnid.
