Aun sin apuntar alto, la progresión en cuanto a la consistencia de los sencillos de Lil Nas X es indudablemente ascendente.
Light Again ya decía cosas pero, a falta de directos o remixes (cuya magia domina a la perfección la Charli, llámala, Montero, tía), resultaba inane para algo más fuera de escucharla en una lista entre canciones de mayor garra, casi como interludio, o bien como hilo musical simpático. Dream Boy en su desnudez, paradójicamente, llamaba más la atención, dejaba cierta fragancia, tentaba a darle al repeat.
Es Hotbox, pese a su querencia retro tan marcada que la hace demasiado deudora, encadenada, a tiempos pretéritos, la más potente. Montero la defiende enérgico, entre rosas exultantes en el video, mariconeando con su gracia natural. Es su elemento.
Curiosamente recrea el sonido del que la Furtado lleva, con tino, huyendo media vida, y lo está consiguiendo. Ella opta por mirar al futuro. Lil Nas X revive el pasado y sale airoso porque él, desde su condición, limpia de telarañas lo retro y queda en un agradable deja vu.
Tanto en el rapeado de estrofas como en el estribillo cantado el cantante contagia. Pereza ninguna. Si bien el tema no inventa nada tampoco se extraña que lo haga pues llega más que muchas composiciones y producciones nuevaoleras. Iba a decir que estaría bien que se juntase con el equipo de la Monae, pero en este momento no sé si merece la pena. Quizá más con Doechii.
El video, sencillo a la par que maricamente hiperactivo, pega con la canción de hecho y de derecho. O por delante y por detrás, como queramos. Él quiere.
