Its first appearance was as the title track of Hammond's 1976 album When I Need You. #LeoSayer's version, produced by #RichardPerry, was a massive hit worldwide, reaching number 1 on the #UKSinglesChart for three weeks in February 1977 after three of his earlier singles had stalled at number 2. Today’s listening is ‘Silverbird’, the 1973 album by Leo Sayer.

*Listen without prejudice, part 23*

Leo Sayer is dismissed as being lightweight fluff these days, but this, his first album, is not at all bad!

Quite heavily orchestrated and a bit too ‘theatrical’ in places, maybe, but overall it’s pretty good 1970’s singer/songwriter stuff.

Probably my favourite tracks are ‘Don’t Say It’s Over’ and ‘Why Is Everybody Going Home’.

"You Make Me Feel Like Dancing" is a song credited to British-Australian singer #LeoSayer, taken from his 1976 album #EndlessFlight. #RayParkerJr claims that the song was stolen from him, after he played it in a studio for an executive who promised he would get credit. Parker received no royalties and no credit for that song. “It’s not Leo’s fault,” he told #Variety.
