– Stichworte: #Dr.HufnerAnalysiert… #QuellenlexikonDerMusik #RISM #AfD #ClaudiaRoth #DieWELT #FAZ #LennieTristano

Jazztodon artist of the week: Warne Marsh! #warnemarsh was often recorded in the company of other Cool School musicians, and he remained one of the most faithful to the #lennietristano philosophy of improvisation – the faith in the purity of the long line, the avoidance of licks and emotional chain-pulling, the concentration on endlessly mining the same small body of jazz standards.

What are some of your Warne Marsh favorites?

I think wrote two ‘heads’ over the standard ‘Back Home in Old Indiana’:
• Back Home
• No Figs
At the end of the full statement of ‘No Figs’ Tristano (1949-50, Metronome All Stars)) and Lennie play this mental coda. Lee and (shown) just alternated years!

2 false starts. Then beginning of ’s serpentine ‘Wow’. I’m left handed and have an injury to my right hand (50% loss of feeling in right pinkie and ringer). So my style is very unorthodox and I’m useless in front of the camera! . NB. Using right hand to stabilise keyboard!!

said to Paul (who adored Lennie’s percussive piano playing & also played with & when sat in for the ever elusive ) "Your 4s sound like a drunk falling down the stairs". People mistook this for an insult. Motian had this remarkable open, almost slack time. It was quite deliberate and Lennie was kidding though Lennie played RIGHT ON the beat. That in turn bugged a little.

I’d like to have written an esteemed book. Generally jazz writing is poor, lazy. Can’t think of anything good in the general works since . I remember buying them all during the 1980s. Even could barely get a mention let alone and . I’d flick through the index first. And yet all 3 are historically significant. Interesting that an appreciation of et al’s music underwent a total renaissance during the 1990+s by players & writers.
