Network Rail’s £6.2 million project to improve #accessibility at #Leatherhead station is complete. In partnership with the Department for Transport’s ‘Access for All’ scheme, new lifts and a footbridge provide step-free access to all platforms, benefiting wheelchair users, those with limited mobility, and travellers with luggage, bikes, or pushchairs. Passengers previously had to navigate a steep, difficult route to switch platforms. The new lifts, each with a capacity for 16 people, were installed alongside new CCTV, lighting, and ramp modifications. #Southern also enhanced sustainable travel with a new cycle hub and double-decker bike rack. The station remained open during construction, ensuring no disruption to service. Lucy McAuliffe of Network Rail highlighted the importance of inclusivity, with more similar projects planned across the network. Feedback from passengers has been positive, particularly regarding the improved accessibility and safety features.
