Holy Canoli, this movie blew me away! Leah is a great film-maker/ actor, but 10 out of 10 and give this woman all the bloody oscars for The Drovers Wife; The Legend Of Molly Johnson.

Don’t want to spoil it - so i’ll do a compare and contrast. Singer’s original story of Yentl had a dark undercurrent of misogyny, appropriate to it’s setting, but Streisand’s movie turned it into a celebration of all the light that should have been there in the first place.

Lawson’s original story of the Drover’s Wife has the racism and sexism you’d expect in a colony built on - well, western kulcha - but with this movie, Purcell has said “let’s have a look at that from a different angle, shall we.”

I’ve seen a few reviews by people disappointed that the movie isn’t this or that - i can only assume they were expecting John Wayne, cos there is not one thread in this re-telling that isn’t beautifully woven, photographed, and acted.

and no - this trailer does NOT tell the whole story;
