"Hop in, we're growing the economy"
This week the Labour government have been trailing their plans to continue the Tories' war on the sick and disabled by restricting disability benefits (known as Personal Independence Payments (PIP)) and increasing the state and social harassment of those who need them.

Work & pensions secretary Liz Kendall plans to keep £1.3bn in cuts to UK sickness benefits announced by the previous Tory government. This will affect half a million of the most vulnerable people.
She also plans to keep the draconian Tory changes to work capability assessments, in order to 'encourage' disabled people into work.

Kendall was the only Labour leadership candidate in 2015 to fully back Tory welfare cuts.

After the government was forced to reveal that 71% of pensioners with disabilities will lose the winter fuel allowance, groups representing disabled people are demanding urgent meetings with ministers.

The internal DWP analysis also suggested that eight out of 10 over-80s would lose their allowance.
These are also the people still on the old, lower state pension of £169 per week.

Just emailed my new Labour MP
"Dear MP,

I believe that our Prime Minister is now warning us that things will get worse before they get better. Unfortunately we've just suffered 14 years under the Conservative Party of things getting worse and they never got better, for Joe public.
I voted for the Labour Party at the election because I, foolishly it would seem, accepted what the Labour Party was telling us.

Starmer is talking bollocks.
There is no need for a round of further Tory austerity. There are many ways of raising the necessary billions, if only he and Reeves could ditch their craven adherence to neoliberal ideology and 'fiscal rectitude'.

They could start by taxing capital gains at the same rate as income tax and restricting pension tax relief to the basic rate. This would more than cover their fictional £22bn black hole.
