In interviews recently, I've mentioned the first time I ever ran into a yokai. It was 1990-91 when I bumped into this jolly fellow. This was before the internet and Japan was still a big mystery. I was just floored and fascinated!
I lose so much stuff, but I FOUND this photo in an old album. His robes are real cloth!

Went for a walk along Yanasegawa in Shiki for the first time. A surprisingly wide open and peaceful space.
It was a bit humid, but fortunately the clouds cooled things off a bit. We met a kappa by the water.
