It’s an attempt at an underwater physics gated exploration platformer. However it’s so short that it feels pretty linear. However for 10 days it’s very beautiful and atmospheric and I would love a fully featured version of this game.

https://mizudo.itch.io/slumber

Nice try to make a Outer Wilds-like but instead of space you're in a garden in the northern parts of the Netherlands. Nice Halloween night game!

Fun platformer where you have to explore the levels to beat them. Feels a bit like the old euro-platformer mixed with Japanese chibi artstyle. Definitely a solid experience with great graphics, diverse gameplay, some twists and good music. But it gets bloody hard in the later third of the game. This will be discussed during the New Game Old Flame Halloween episode!

This was a nice shot of nostalgia for me. If I had time I would’ve tried harder modes and maybe multiplayer as well. Just a chill and cute little single screen arcade game. Tried it (or one of its variants) if you never played it!

I however persevered from beginning to end together with a friend. This game is a banger and I’ll continue playing it at home without credit feeding.

It’s disgusting of me because this one is really good! Sort of mix of Mr Driller, a gated exploration platformer and some Zelda dungeons sprinkled in. The artstyle is cool and the soundtrack is amazing. The game has an addictive gameplay loop where you mine for resources, sell them and then buy upgrades at the shop. Highly recommended! This game often on extreme sale so grab it and give it a chance!

Absolutely brilliant arcade style single screen platformer. Addictive pick up and play gameplay, tight controls and a banging soundtrack makes this an instant classic in my books. Very fun one to learn. Got very far in medium-hard mode as well, however how do I ever get a high score that high?

It’s cool to start weak with a basic load-out and get stronger along the way. Ends on a cliffhanger like every good half-life game should. Always fun to play as a middle aged nerd with glasses again!

Warmed up to it and ended up addicted by it! What helped is the double speed button because else the game is awfully slow so that ~50h beat time can be seen as ~35h. Also I didn’t look much up so I wasn’t overpowered too fast. The last battles were insanely fun and won by the skin of my teeth. The social aspect of trading was a good time. Very fun platformer with tons of secrets to find, cute graphics and mostly good level design. Where it is a bit flawed is that sometimes the game trolls you by harsh respawning enemies or throws stuff at you that you never could’ve anticipated. I’m sure 10y old me would’ve been all over this game and learned all its secrets, unfortunately this was not one of the handful GG games I owned.

A Tokyo Tale

Eggplant discord was playing games from Boku no Natsuyasumi series so I wanted to check out what it’s all about. This one was the most accessible for me so I decided to check it out. It’s basically a visual novel with slightly more gameplay, mostly just running from A to B and a basic card game. Cute Japanese nostalgia story which partly flew over my head because I never was a kid in Japan. Still cool to be in Tokyo again for around 3h!

No backtracking anymore, no optional collectibles, no abilities to unlock. Just a straight platformer with TONS of half backed mechanics. It even has a very bad short shmup level. It’s like the programmers made a lot of cool stuff and the level designers had no idea what to do with it.

Can’t imagine a playing this all the way through without save states and limited battery time.

I really liked it! It has some clever puzzles, there’s even some backtracking to earlier levels with acquired abilities and the platforming is solid. The graphics are great too. And there’s even secret collectibles if you want to start over and do a 100% run.

You have to beat this game in basically one play session of about an hour. It’s one of the most rudimentary game I played on the device because it’s made in Pulp, but it’s fun non the less. Definitely worth the euro I paid for it and I will buy its upcoming sequel too.

Also title contains a body part.

This is mostly because of pacing issues between level difficulties. Starts off fabulous but easy and never really gets harder. Even some of the later levels are easier than the earlier ones. There’s pretty much no boss designs other than the last one. Because of this I just got bored and played something else. Still one of the best 2D Mario games out there, but I just prefer my games to get gradually harder.

Loved the art, music and moving story but the cooking part was a bit undercooked. Still fun though. Maybe I should look into a more cooking focussed game.

Excellent modern Donkey Kong Country clone. Fairly short and maybe a bit on the easy side but it controls great and has a lot of charm. I love the main characters from the Spirou comics and cartoons.

There’s plenty of secrets to find, I always love those in my platformers! There’s a free DLC world I haven’t played yet which I absolutely going to play next.

Thanks everyone who uncovered this jasper!

This is the New Game Old Flame game club game.

A top down puzzler where your character can only walk on lit tiles. Use torches, braziers on rails and oil drums to find keys to open doors. Very fun and not overly hard and long.

Definitely going to check out its (also free) sequel and of course going to talk about it on the podcast in a couple of months.

Download here: https://h4plo.itch.io/tenebra-nes

Now in 4k on PS4 it didn’t hit as hard but a 6y old which giving commentary and asking questions every minute could’ve been part of it.

Still amazing art and music, must play! And play everything from thatgamecompany and giantsquid while you’re at it.
