Trying to get my house insured. Realising that the insurance companies have hit on another method to wring as much money as possible out of customers. Quotes I've had so far are ridiculously expensive and have a whole string of things included in the insurance cover that I will never need (and therefore never claim on) that I'm told are mandatory as part of the policy. The latest ridiculous one was a quote that included cover for my stables ... 🙄

6/12/1935 The Economic Security Bill President Roosevelt transmitted to Congress in January 1935 contained the following language: "No person shall receive such old-age annuity unless . . . He is not employed by another in a gainful occupation." This was the retirement earnings test (RET) provision. On this day, the Senate Finance Committee reported its bill to the Senate--with the RET provision.

This is hilarious and sad.

I know for a fact that my #USAA auto policy doesn’t cover acts of terrorism. If you don’t want to read your whole insurance policy because it’s long and boring, you can just look at the exclusions part. It’s important to read that anyway.

PSA for folks in greater Boston (or beyond), that you might want to steer clear of Amica for insurance. They appear to be collecting data only and may not have any interest in providing real insurance. I asked for a quote. Got one that would cost like TWICE what I'm already paying.
This whole auto insurance system looks to be as shady as "health insurance" in the U.S. but I figure you might find this info useful anyhow.
