Monty Python's Norwegian Blue exhibits more life than the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). Firewalls itself from the public by hiding its service email address, no whistleblower comms, ignores written correspondence, fends off interaction by use of online form. Vital function, poorly undertaken. Still waiting for answer to under what law does DVLA breach data law by selling keeper data to the private parking cowboys.

Another one bites the dust: from the UK at least, The Guardian now requires payment to avoid tracking and "personalised" adverts (no doubt exploiting the ICO's recent guidance that explicitly prioritises corporate business models over individuals' data protection rights.) So long then, Hyde, Crace, and First Dog.

Britain’s data watchdog has opened an investigation into how TikTok uses children’s personal information to recommend content to them.

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) said on Monday the investigation was in response to “growing concerns” about platforms using recommender systems to serve teenagers inappropriate or harmful content.

Reading between the lines it looks like the ICO wants to act as the age verification czar rather than staying in its lane & leaving that to Ofcom; I wonder why… but I suspect it’s a lingering hope of one day being giant-killers.

Doodling the scene from ICO again, but this time in Blender trying to learn some tricks from @passivestar

Used materials from polyhaven, baking to a lower res using ucupaint. Learned to add RGB curves so I can match the texture colours to the best of my ability.

Might end up pivoting away from trenchbroom, this workflow is really good

Why is this important you ask?

Because I am thinking of releasing a PyQt application for Linux soon that solves a particular problem. If I ever decided to release it on Microsoft Windows, I might have to change the application icon from PNG to ICO.
