Our tent in a winter storm. High winds are especially dangerous during winter hikes, as they efficiently remove body heat, which can lead to frostbite or even hypothermia. They can also affect visibility, making navigation and movement difficult. If the winds get too strong, pitching a tent might become impossible, so it's important to be aware of the situation.

Western media reports on the murder of Palestinian children as if they were unpreventable tragedies, never acknowledging Israel's direct role in their deaths from hunger or hypothermia.

Thank you to Dr. Mimi Syed for setting the record straight 🍉

Für die weniger faktenscheuen, hier die WHO zum Thema:

❞ The newborn infant regulates body temperature much less efficiently than does an adult. … In fact, a naked baby exposed to an environmental temperature of 23°C (73.4°F) at birth, suffers the same heat loss as does a naked adult at 0°C (32°F).❝

❞low environmental temperatures are not necessary for the development of the condition. A high incidence of hypothermia [in babies] has been reported in places with ambient temperatures of 26-30°C❝ [!!]

Hypothermia Symptoms:

When the temperature starts to drop, the body can start to shiver. Shivering is the body's attempt to warm itself. It is an automatic defense against cold temperature.

Symptoms of hypothermia include:

Shivering.
Slurred speech or mumbling.
Slow, shallow breathing.
Weak pulse.
Clumsiness or lack of coordination.
Drowsiness or very low energy.
Confusion or memory loss.
Loss of consciousness.
In infants, bright red, cold skin.

People with hypothermia usually aren't aware of their condition. The symptoms often begin gradually. Also, the confused thinking associated with hypothermia prevents self-awareness. The confused thinking also can lead to risk-taking behavior.

EXTREME COLD ALERT:

For the first time since they changed the name from #WindChill #Warning, nearly all of the #Northland is under a #Extreme #Cold Warning from Saturday night through Tuesday morning.

Wind chills as cold as 45-below are possible. #Frostbite can form in as little as 10 minutes on exposed skin, plus the increase risk for #hypothermia if you are outside with improper clothing.

Please take it safe out there!

Hypothermia can occur in any situation where the body is losing more heat to the environment than it is generating. betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health

Mild hypothermia (32 to 35°C body temperature) is usually easy to treat. However, the risk of death increases as the core body temperature drops below 32°C.

If core body temperature is lower than 28°C, the condition is life-threatening without immediate medical attention. Under this temperature, a person will be very cold to touch, unresponsive, rigid, not breathing, have no pulse, and their pupils will be fixed (they will not respond to light changes). They will appear to be dead, but they may not be.

An eighth baby has died of #hypothermia in #Gaza as temperatures plummet amid the Israeli genocide.

“I am the mother of Yousef. I lost him. They didn’t give a single moment to feel happy with my baby.”

“He died because of the very cold weather. He slept next to me and in the morning I found him frozen and dead. I don’t know what to say.”

“No one can feel my misery. No one in the world can understand our catastrophic situation. Yousef was fine. He was born healthy … I lost Yousef forever.”

"Dr. Syed is an American emergency doctor who spent nearly a month in Gaza volunteering at Gaza’s hospitals, particularly Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah. She says that she is not shocked that babies are dying from the cold—the living conditions she witnessed are harsh and these babies live on the seaside where temperatures significantly drop. She also insists that Israel’s banning of building materials, which prevents building proper dwellings, amounted to their deaths.

“Dwellings need to be more secure. The humanitarian safe zone is neither humanitarian nor safe since most of the casualties we’ve been receiving are from there. If we want to end this, we need an immediate ceasefire and allow aid and decent containers and building materials in. It’s a huge difficulty for newborn babies to maintain their temperatures when they live under horrible circumstances and without basic human needs,” Dr. Syed explained to Drop site News."
