I just got the perfect opportunity to test my new Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM and I couldn't be any more satisfied. This hummingbird hawk-moth (Macroglossum stellatarum) wasn't alone, in fact there was a second one, and so far has only been observed feeding on lavender and the much-hated butterfly-bush.

Seen Hummingbird hawk-moths a few times over the years here in south eastern Germany. Yesterday I‘ve managed to snap photos of one at my in-laws garden.
Takeaway: my 20+ year old macro lens w/ it‘s 30y old design is good enough for immobile or slow objects, but too slow for most living creatures. I should probably upgrade. It‘s autofocus is already under-powered for slower insects, but mostly useless for faster moving insects, reptiles etc. #HummingbirdHawkMoth#Photography#MacroPhotography
Taubenschwänzchen sind Wanderfalter. Sie kommen immer wieder aus dem Mittelmeerraum zu uns und überwintern auch immer häufiger hier. Der Falter ist im Schwirrflug unterwegs, wodurch er immer eine ausreichende Distanz zwischen sich selbst und der Blüte hat. Dadurch ist das Taubenschwänzchen gut vor getarnten Fressfeinden wie der Krabbenspinne getarnt.
