UK emergency alert to hit every Brit phone with siren.

Some people have a secret mobile phone for safety reasons (e.g. in an abusive relationship). If this is you or someone you know, this article tells you how to 'opt out' of emergency alerts so it won't reveal your phone.

Daily Mirror · UK emergency alert to hit every Brit phone with siren - what you need to knowBy Monica Charsley

On Wednesday October 4th at 1:20 (CT), FEMA (the Federal Emergency Management Agency) is conducting a nationwide test of the Wireless Emergency Alert System. Cell towers will broadcast the alert for 30 minutes. Individuals may receive the test message anytime during those 30 minutes.

This can be a safety risk for those living with an abuser. During the test, phones may emit a loud noise and/or vibrate and alert abusers to the location of hidden phones. National alerts also cannot be turned off on cell phones.

If you or someone you know has a hidden emergency cell phone, please plan ahead and switch it off during the test.

Be aware that when the phone is turned back on it will still have the alert sound so do so when it is safe.

@almaember thx for the info.

A lot of people will appreciate having their or not being unvocered due to ...

Not that my recommendation is to have a switched-off " " with removed battery, replacement battery, charger , SIM cards (yes, plural!) all zipped up if not vacuum-bagged and hidden somewhere safe if need be, but it's good to have a precise info for when to take those offline.

Also thx for the source link:
