Finally did it...

I've been poking at #Handbrake to compress content on the #MediaServer I keep running various tests on the HD content and so far It feels like it will be ok.

Part of it is to increase storage availability, but part of it has been while shuffling files around. Blu ray rips of even TV shows are chunky.

I'm a little frustrated with getting the presets working for things like Audio tracks. I want it to pass thru all of the tracks of a given language, and I keep getting re-encoding tracks mixed in that I have to delete to get the final file to do what I want. I keep poking at it, but I just can't seem to get it to behave the way I want without manually touching every encode job. If anybody has any thoughts, I'd appreciate it. The documentation isn't making sense to me.

On the flip side, my Nvidia card on my laptop is supported for hardware encoding, so I've increased frame processing by a factor of 10.

Does anyone know how to batch insert _h264 between the file extension and existing name of a folder full of files?

MTS files are a common container format for high-definition video, often used by HD camcorders, and can be played with various media players like VLC, or converted to other formats like MP4 using Handbrake or FFmpeg. Video editors like Kdenlive, Flowblade and Shortcut also support editing MTS files.

A little sky and clouds to cleanse the timeline with.

Trying to rip my Parks & Recreation box set as the family wants to play it without digging up the DVDs, but the copy protection (?) is doing weird things to the Title numbers on season three--what I see with the disc in #VLC is different than what #HandBrake sees. Would love to figure this out without "rip 'em all, let Jon sort 'em out" as my methodology.

Can someone please help me with handbrake and Babylon 5 DVDs?

As a video codec engineer I don't think I'll allow movies I ripped from decades old DVDs to be encoded with MPEG-2. It's not like I am trying to save storage on the NAS. It's a principle thing.

My AMD 7900xtx supports AV1 hardware encoding... It can encode 1000+ frames per second for those 480p movies.

Linux App Release Roundup (Feb 2025)

February was a bumper month for Linux app updates, bringing new releases of Mozilla Firefox, LibreOffice, ONLYOFFICE and more — as well as a slew of smaller app updates that didn’t get a full-length article on this blog. Rather than skip over them entirely I thought I’d resurrect my Linux Release Roundup thread1 to provide a monthly (perhaps twice-monthly, if there’s a lot) run-through of some of them. After all, for those of us on fixed-release Linux distribution like Ubuntu may find one of these smaller updates fixes a flaw or fleshes out a feature to make it worth upgrading
