I was really hoping for a lot better/stronger flavor for the new strawberry flavored Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal.

Straight out of the box it's decently good. Once in milk, it loses the strawberry flavor almost instantly.

The cinnamon flavoring isn't as strong either, I guess because of the strawberry flavoring.

Overall, not happy with it and wish it were considerably better.

#TIL American grocery store staples like #LuckyCharms cereal, Triscuits to #Cheetos & #Chewy brand #granola bars were revealed as being made by migrant children working in allegedly unsafe conditions at secretive processing plants in #GrandRapids, #Michigan?

The #PrivateEquity owned mfgr now seeking #Chapter11 bankruptcy protections has been hit with numerous govt probes, ranging from blocking #Unionization efforts to #ADA issues to exploiting #ChildLabor across 28 facilities in multiple states with over 12,000 employees.

A 2023 #NYTimes investigation found factory floors staffed with low wage undocumented staff, including kids and that has led to recent #bankruptcy filing of Hearthside #Food Solutions, a mass market production & packaging firm

"It would be hard to find a cookie or cracker aisle in any leading grocer that does not contain multiple products from #Hearthside production facilities,” said Richard Roscoe, manager of just one of the corp's four plants in the Grand Rapids, Mich area.

Hearthside , whose plants are largely reliant on non union #TempWorkers , has been publicly mentioned as a partner to #GeneralMills and #PepsiCo. In 2014 Hearthside Food Solutions was sold to #GoldmanSachs and 2018, it was announced #HearthsideFood purchased a #Kellogg cereal production plant in Indiana. When #Lärabars first came out, a little over 20 years ago, I really liked them, but I got tired of them after awhile, and stopped buying them. I recently started buying them again, and now I remember why I liked them to begin with.

Sadly, they are owned by #GeneralMills, now. Creator Lara Merriken founded Humm Foods to market her creation, and sold out 6 years later. Since Clif Bar also recently sold out, I've sort of given up on trying to buy from small companies.

Caught some #shrinkflation in action from #BettyCrocker / #GeneralMills at #Kroger.

I bought what I thought were 2 identical boxes of brownie mix. Nominally the same product, and they're the same price, but one box (expires in 2024) contains 19.9 oz of mix, while the other (expires in 2025) only contains 16.3 oz.

That's nearly 20% less product for the same price. And the instructions call for the same amount of eggs and oil, so you end up with shittier brownies.

General Mills has toured the country touting anti-diet research it claims proves the harms of “food shaming” [it does harm, but doesn’t necessitate unhealthy food habits].
