Pulling a late one to see if I can spot sky off the #geminids but so far nothing looking out west from Dunedin.
I tried to capture some of the #Geminids but the moon was too boastful Oh well, still another fun video of the sky around here. (Music is another copyright-free piece called "Ambient lo-fi beat (1122691)".) #sky #nature #timelapse #Ostdrossel
Anybody near Albuquerque spot the meteor in the western sky a few minutes ago? Bright, green, and moving fast. Seemed brighter than your average #geminids, easily visible from inside.
shooting star enthusiasts: we've got clear midnight skies forecast! Look up for some #Geminids meteors! The nearly full moon means you're only going to see the brightest (estimates range between 5-25 an hour), but you can still make a wish on each of them. Good luck!

Meteor Shower alert: The Geminids meteor shower peaks during tonight and tomorrow night, 13/14 Dec. A live stream from a receiver detecting reflections from a distant analogue TV transmitter on 61.26 MHz is now on Youtube. I used to do this type of detection 10-20 years ago when analogue TV was common in Europe.
Sadly the locations of TX and RX are not disclosed, but I presume the RX is in one of the southern US states, detcting signals from a Central American TV transmitter.
The #Geminids are coming! Keep everything crossed for clear skies over Ireland this weekend.
After dark, wrap up warm, turn your back to the moon, and look up at the sky using the naked eye (not binoculars, etc.), if you can.
These meteor showers will peak tonight and tomorrow night.

“ The Geminids - among the few major meteor showers to come from asteroids — peak on Friday. It's one of the year's last chances to see fireballs in the sky.
The shower often produces meteors with a distinctly more yellow glow, likely due to the unusual origin material, said Sally Brummel, planetarium manager at the University of Minnesota's Bell Museum.” https://apnews.com/article/how-to-watch-geminid-meteor-shower-0404b8c198028749bc6c95313e3f8ecf How to catch the Geminids, one of the strongest meteor showers of the year
Here come the Geminids! Arguably one of the best meteor showers of the year competes this time around with the December Full Cold Moon. But even with a bright moon, you can still see some great meteors. The official peak is forecast for around 8 p.m. EST on December 13th. https://ow.ly/Aaq850Uqer2

The maximum of the #Geminids will peak on Dec 13-14. The Moon presence will be strong, but, in a very dark place with clear skies, you may observe #meteors. "#Geminids (#MeteorShower) are often more vivid than ... other showers. They streak across the sky at relatively slow speeds of around 21 miles per second, which makes them easier to spot & allows observers to fully appreciate their dazzling colors. Yellow, green, white, and even occasional blue streaks illuminate the night, creating a breathtaking display that captivates viewers annually."
