CM30<p>God, if there’s one thing I really struggle with as both a web developer and a game developer, it’s overambitiousness and feature creep. Every time I work on something, I get ten new ideas and can’t proceed until I create and add them.</p><p>For example, I wanted to finish one level in my game earlier. Said I’d keep it simple.</p><p>Still ended up coding at least 2 mechanics and tweaking another one…</p><p><a href="https://ohai.social/tags/webdevelopment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>webdevelopment</span></a> <a href="https://ohai.social/tags/gamedevelopment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gamedevelopment</span></a></p>

Getting some more work in on text adventure game I started a couple weeks back. Run a bookstore, deal with customers, collect Words of Power, save the world from extra-dimensional evil! Semi-roguelike.

My first serious attempt at a game. I tried vibe-coding it with Ink, then switched to an SQL backend, before finally settling on keeping everything in JSON files and returning to #Python so I, a mere human being, can code for myself. Flask, and vanilla JS / CSS. #games #GameDevelopment

I've been meaning to hold off posting this until I draw the last enemy sprite, but what the heck.

Here's WIP of my C64 game Bounds of Impossibility, which uses an uncommon graphics mode.

It's a 320x200 bitmap over an 80x200 multicolor sprite carpet. This means that each 4x1 block of pixels can only have two colors.

This is VERY restrictive, since a soft-sprite essentially can only have one color in each 4x1 block.
