data0<p>Efficiently downloading huge files via <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/JavaScript" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>JavaScript</span></a> in the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/browser" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>browser</span></a> in 2023 still seems the same as in 2013: Open an URL with a Content-Disposition <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/HTTP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HTTP</span></a> header.</p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/FileSystemAccessAPI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FileSystemAccessAPI</span></a> is nice but only supported in some <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Chromium" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Chromium</span></a> derivates and presents <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/UX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UX</span></a> challenges.</p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/ServiceWorker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ServiceWorker</span></a> hacks à la StreamSaver.js seem to be the next best thing. But it's not free of compatibility issues either and <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/DX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DX</span></a> with all that ceremony is not the best.</p><p>So good 'ol Content-Disposition it is.</p>
