The news tend to kill all optimism. (I try to stay away from them, I do.)</p><p>What helps is being able to talk (and think) about my characters. Finding out what makes them tick. Finding out weaknesses, errors, mistakes, weird beliefs.</p><p>And sales help, as well. They are Americans, but most churches would consider them unnatural. The Hunters certainly do...</p><p>They do need to run "in the fur" from time to time, as they call it, and that has a spiritual element. Is there one genre or subgenre you would never write?</p><p>I always say I won't write horror. </p><p>Then someone pointed out that there are quite a few horrible scenes in the Franssisi Four Chronicles.</p><p>But I don't see that series as horror.
