The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics calls a selection of U.S. households every month and asks them if they are employed, how many jobs they have, looking for work, or if they would like to have jobs even if they are NOT looking for work.

The data is revised every month for prior months.

Economists have relied on this hand-waving reporting for decades.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics doesn't actually know how many people are working, looking for work, or whatever.

Paycheck processor #ADP release grim data ahead of July 4th showing over 30,000+ jobs lost across private employers in #USA.

While described as " a surprise move in the wrong direction" , I'm personally very #unsurprised, that American #employment is in a tariff tailspin amidst #GOP #GDP games, including the drastic #Drumpf #deportation dramas taking toll.on #economic activity, amidst fiscal fear factors slowing growth, stifling #ConsumerConfidence and regular #retail activity while radically raising costs on everything from food, housing, clothing, travel and energy.

• not sharing US Federal roles - with the hiring freeze, etc
• I am NOT associated with recruiting, these are NOT endorsements, and no ‘referrals’ or the like for me - simply sharing SOME I have seen in case of use to someone
• PLEASE do your ‘due diligence’ - with hideous prevalence of ‘ghost jobs’, etc

I shared with a "friend" that I had been trying to move into the gaming industry, but that the market has downturned and I was competing against massive layoffs AND newly jobless experienced workers possessing personal and professional connections.

His callous question to me was, "So what does that have to do with you?"

43,000 layoffs since 2022 is what it has to do with me, sir.

We currently project 3,855 additional layoffs for the rest of the year and hope this remains a reasonable forecast. If this projection holds, it would bring the total number of games layoffs from 2022 to 2025 to 43,633. I know many sites still show totals of around 3,000 for this year. That’s because for many cuts, including those this week, all or most of the number of affected roles aren't disclosed or are presented as ? No estimate is perfect, but our figures reflect our best guess based on all available information to fill those gaps, including layoffs not disclosed at all.

Ed Scarce highlights a shocking twist in hiring trends: a loss of 33,000 private payroll jobs in June, surprising economists expecting a gain. This marks the first decline since March 2023, as employers hesitate to hire despite low layoffs. The findings raise questions about economic strength, contrasting with a buoyant S&P 500.
