Daily Inspiration: "Fear is a liar. Choose courage instead." - Futurist Jim Carroll

Today I want to write about resilience - why it's important, and why chasing resilience instead of giving in to fear is too important.

To do that, though, I need to tell you how I got to today's quote. I quite like it!

I've been spending quite a bit of time using Google Notebook LLM - it's become apparent to me that it's one of the best tools to use to go through vast volumes of information and synthesize useful results. One thing I've been doing is to use it to query and structure insight from the over 3,000 Daily Inspiration posts I've written since 2016.

The tool is providing me with all kinds of useful data and insight into my very own insight. For example, I asked it what I had to say about the topic of resilience, which I think is a very important attribute in the very complex days ahead. The answer seemed reasonably intelligent.

---

Carroll believes people should never let a setback set them back and focus on moving forward. He stresses the importance of using the words that define the attitude needed to go in the right direction, such as:

Perseverance

Determination

Fortitude

Persistence

Resolve

----

I couldn't have said it better myself! (-;

Going further, I then asked myself to generate 10 inspirational posts from my material. The response I got was somewhat magical:

---

Here are 10 resilience quotes, inspired by Jim Carroll's perspective, using 10 words or less.

Guard your optimism, battle negativity.
Broken today, stronger tomorrow. Keep going.
Embrace change, find your faster self.
Resilience: Courage to bounce back, always.
Turn setbacks into fuel for the future.
Don't just recover, reinvent and rise.
Persistence: The art of never giving up.
Find strength in what you have, not losses.
Embrace uncertainty, it breeds opportunity.
Fear is a liar. Choose courage instead.

----
That's pretty good! I could have used any one of these, but I really liked the last one.

Daily Inspiration: “Optimistic societies are stable societies” – Futurist Jim Carroll

On the day of the election, I’ll be speaking to an audience of senior government executives in Abu Dhabi.

One section of my talk explores the link between the entrepreneurial spirit of the younger generation and the role of optimism in moving a society forward, not back.

Daily Inspiration: "Your future should always begin with your wildest imagination!" - Futurist Jim Carroll

People always tend to say, "Never in my wildest imagination!"

And then that thing happens, and they are shocked by what they see.

But our idea of tomorrow should always consist of our wildest imagination.

Because the wildest ideas can often become real, sooner than we think.

I've been noticing that in most of my keynotes as of late, people are taking out their phones and taking a picture of the slide with my go-to phrase.

Remember it?

“Companies that do not yet exist will build products not yet conceived using ideas not yet in existence with methodologies yet to be defined with ideas yet to be imagined"

I think the reason it is drawing so much attention is that although people feel overwhelmed by the speed of tomorrow and the change that it brings, some also know that we now live in a world and a time in which anything is possible.

Not only that, but ideas that once seemed to be on the crazy side of our future forecast map are becoming more likely.

But not everyone thinks like that. Have you ever noticed that you are often surrounded by pessimistic people? People who can't seem to comprehend how different tomorrow might be? They’re everywhere! And for every silver lining, they see massive rainfall. The glass is never half full nor even empty - they see a shattered glass! They seem to thrive on the belief that the worst is yet to come. Cynicism runs deep in their soul.

Seriously, these people are a bit of a drag!

Don't be that person!

Stop using the phrase "never in my wildest imagination" when it comes to tomorrow. Instead, let your imagination run wild!

Futurist Jim Carroll believes that our imagination is a window into tomorrow.

Daily Inspiration: "The future is going to happen to all of us. It’s what YOU do with that fact that matters!" - Futurist Jim Carroll

You can't blame others if you don't arrive tomorrow in good shape.

It's not the fault of other people if you aren't prepared.

You can't play the blame game.

It's all about action.

Every day involves a series of choices when it comes to the future.

What new skills do I need to develop? What new knowledge do I need to chase? What new experiences should I be trying to pursue? What attitude do I need to cultivate to accept the change that tomorrow represents? What trends do I need to understand to align my thinking?

What actions can I start taking at this very moment in time to get ready for what comes next?

What does all of this mean?

It means taking the right steps to move forward, not back!

Take responsibility - stop making excuses!

Stop being indecisive - decide that right now is the best time to act, adapt, and innovate.

Stop waiting for the perfect moment - that's an inaction trap.

Recognize the benefits of action - the future rewards those who move quickly and decisively.

Develop courage - instead of fearing the unknown of tomorrow, embrace it!

Stop planning and start doing - there's never a right time, just time!

Like I've said before - "wait and see" is not a strategy.

Those who are proactive and decisive are the ones who win.
Last but not least adopt a mindset of action and urgency, recognizing that the future belongs to those who are fast!

Those all sound like some pretty basic statements, but hidden within their core is the idea that to banish inaction is to achieve the momentum you need RIGHT NOW.

Daily Inspiration: "Never trust anyone who tries to sell you an old idea!" - Futurist Jim Carroll

The big problem with organizational memory is that often, there is too much of it. And yet, too many people rely on it to keep bringing up the same old ideas they always bring up.

This is a bad thing.

That's because old ideas lead to stagnation.

Old ideas trap you in a rut.

Old ideas block the consideration of new ideas.

Old ideas are increasingly likely to fail as time moves on.

Old ideas deter innovative thinking.

Old ideas block new risk taking.

Old ideas limit new growth opportunities.

Old ideas are often outdated in rapidly changing markets.

Old ideas may not resonate with newer generations of customers or employees.

Old ideas create resistance to change - or solidify existing resistance..

Old ideas prevent the adoption of new technologies and tools.

Old ideas foster complacency within teams.

Old ideas discourage creative problem-solving.

Old ideas are less likely to align with current industry trends.

Old ideas can resulted in a lot of wasted time.

Old ideas limit diversity of thought and perspectives.

Old ideas often result in a rigid, unchanging business culture.

Old ideas reduce an organization’s agility in responding to new crises.

Old ideas may increase vulnerability to disruption by more adaptive competitors.

Old ideas shut new ideas down.

Don't trust the people who keep giving you old ideas.

Encourage them to come up with new ones!
