Franklin López<p>🚨 The state’s rolling out the terrorism label again — this time for a noise demo outside an ICE detention center in Texas. No, seriously.</p><p>On July 4th, 10 anti-ICE protesters were arrested outside the Prairieland facility in Alvarado. And now the pigs and their bootlicker allies in the right-wing media are spinning it into some fantasy about domestic terrorism — the usual fear-mongering to justify locking people up for standing with migrants.</p><p>Bail is set at $10 million each — a fucking obscene number that makes it clear this isn't about justice. It's about sending a message: “Resist ICE, and we'll bury you.”</p><p>And look, as someone who’s been labeled a “terrorist” just for making media, I know damn well how useful that label is to the state and fascists alike. It doesn’t just ruin lives — it disappears people. These comrades are now facing charges that carry 10 years to life. For what? Standing up for your rights is not a crime. </p><p>This morning was the pretrial hearing in Malta of the <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/ElHiblu3" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ElHiblu3</span></a>. Sadly, Abdalla, Amara and Kader’s defence plea was dismissed and they continue to face the prospect of many years in prison for protecting their own, and others', human rights. </p><p>The three teenagers were amongst 108 people who were rescued by the ship 'El Hiblu 1' in March 2019 following their boat getting into distress in international waters. The cargo ship was then instructed by an EU military aircraft to return them illegally to Libya, clearly documented as an unsafe country for people on the move. </p><p>The survivors protested against their return to Libya, convincing the crew to eventually change their course and head to Malta. The teenagers mediated and translated between crew and survivors but on their arrival to Malta were accused, amongst other things, of terrorism, hijacking a ship and threatening crew, when in reality their acts that day ensured no one was harmed and nothing was damaged. </p><p>That day they prevented Malta from pushing them back to an unsafe country.
