Deep poverty in Ontario worsened by Trump's tariffs and Premier Doug Ford's failure to raise OW and ODSP rates. "People on government assistance programs such as ODSP receive up to $1,368 per month, or $16,416 annually, while Ontario Works recipients receive up to $733 per month or $8,796 annually — both below the Canadian lowincome cutoff or the poverty line, which currently sits at $29,380."

Metroland Media · Middle-class, low-income Niagara families impacted most by trade war: expertsBy Matthew P. Barker

I'm old enough to remember when Doug Ford's brother Rob railed against Toronto City Council for opting to get the TR1 cars built in Thunder Bay because they were made in Canada over a slightly cheaper bid that would've been built in the US.

Populists... no principles, they just spout whatever is popular in the day.

Toronto Star · Ford government asks Toronto to have new subway cars built in Thunder Bay amid Trump tariffsBy Andy Takagi

Happy belated Earth Day, everyone. For some good news, Ontario's courts have temporarily stopped the conservatives' reckless provincial legislation to remove bike lanes from key Toronto streets. Good job to people standing in support, and continue with the pressure to ensure our streets can be safer and healthier for everyone.

Ontario school workers report rising violence as funding cuts continue

phys.org/news/2025-04-ontario-

> New research from the University of Ottawa has found Ontario's education sector workers live with increasing rates of violence inside their schools as austerity cuts continue to compound a worrying trend.

I wonder who's cutting school funding?

And privatizing health care.

Well at least he's fighting to build more roads.

Another reason I am still angry so few voted in the latest Ontario election!!!!

"When CBC News asked the #Ontario government if it was considering lifting the ban, it did not answer. Instead, it sent a statement confirming that Ontario is not currently approving the development of offshore #wind projects, as the province declared a moratorium on offshore wind projects in 2011."

CBCWill offshore wind ever come to the Great Lakes? | CBC NewsWind turbines in the Great Lakes have the potential to produce huge amounts of clean energy in one of the most popular regions in North America. But offshore wind is banned in Ontario and facing headwinds in the U.S. Here's why some think now is the time to give it a second look and a closer look at the barriers.

@Rural_Canadian

I took this photo of former farmland near Stratford a few days ago.

Similar 'development' by many small towns out this way.

Feels weird finding hunks of Mississauga or Vaughn or Oakville in these little places.

As to 'affordability' ... totally!*

* if you've got steady/paid-enough work and savings for downpayment and a mortgage typically not below $650k; if not, please get your bicycle out of my two F150s' way thank you kindly

@mike One man’s opinion….. I don’t think Carney needed to throw out sound bites or match the #PP slick slogan, glib pronouncements attitude. Informed and concerned Canadians know the dangers facing us and recognize that Carney has the presence, the intellect and the experience to see us through this. He has also demonstrated his ability to stand up to #donald without the need for a #DougFord bully stance or the #PP and #ABDanielleSmith kowtowing. #VoterApathy is the danger.

@mayintoronto "so unconnected" 😂

Therme has had a symbiotic relationship with the Ontario Conservative Party since the company was founded.

"Behind the scenes, Leslie Noble — who is something of an icon in Conservative politics in #Ontario — has been an important figure for the company for years. She’ll soon be joining #Therme Canada as a director, as well."
