A new addition to the #studio …

an #Elgato #StreamDeck XL, which will play back key commands and macros (once I program it!)

My primary purpose is to automate common tasks in #DolbyAtmos production, but it will be useful for pretty much anything I’d like to do at the touch of a button.

I love that you can customize the images and animations the buttons display … I immediately made a few screen savers.

This one is a photo of a beautiful #mbira I bought years ago from a #Zimbabwean musician.

A Stream Deck XL has an 8 x 4 matrix of 32 buttons, each displaying its own LCD image. It has a screen saver mode, and I have it displaying a photo of my mbira.

1/3 I had a wonderful experience yesterday …

After a couple years of researching, planning, sacrificing, and assembling a 7.1.6 #DolbyAtmos system in my studio,

I used my main DAW (Digital Performer) to draft my #immersive music workflow on a quickly improvised piece.

Without prep, I played a 3-minute piano take in 5.1 surround, keeping the sloppy first pass. Then I added stereo pairs using the surround and #Atmos height channels.

My desktop, as I work … in the background, Digital Performer with the audio tracks I’ve recorded so far …  Ginger Audio’s fantastic SPHERE software, which lets my DAW talk to my Atmos system in ways Apple’s macOS doesn’t, and the interface for one of the soft synths I’m using.
