Het plein verandert van een versnipperd plein met weinig uitstraling in een hoogwaardig verblijfsgebied voor wonen, werken, uitgaan en recreëren, waarvoor Brainport Eindhoven model staat. Amvest won in 2017 met haar visie ‘District E’ de prijsvraag van de gemeente Eindhoven. District E is een gezamenlijke ontwikkeling met BESIX. Het project omvat ca. 725 woningen. Ongeveer 21 procent daarvan betreft sociale huurwoningen. De overige woningen komen in het middensegment en in de vrije sector. Naast woonfuncties biedt District E ruimte voor publieke en commerciële functies. De plint biedt ruimte voor ontmoeting in de vorm van een ruime stadslobby en een Eindhovens programma. Voorts zijn er winkeltjes en horeca. District E biedt zo volop ruimte en kansen voor een echt Eindhovens programma dat techniek, design en kennis ademt. Met verschillende instellingen en ondernemingen bereidde Amvest de programmering van de publieke ruimtes voor. Het plan bestaat uit drie markante torens waarvan de hoogste toren de hoogste van Eindhoven wordt. In de torens komen naast woningen ook lobby’s en dakterrassen voor werk, uitzicht en ontspanning. Op de 44everdieping van de hoogste toren komt de Skybar, waar Eindhovenaren kunnen genieten van een prachtig uitzicht. Op de lagere verdiepingen sluit de bebouwing aan op de hoogtes van de omliggende gebouwen, zoals de ‘radio’, het karakteristieke stationsgebouw dat met tal van zichtlijnen volop zichtbaar blijft.
