Included in this is being socially isolated as a type of poverty.</p><p>Economic poverty is raw money and things that can very easily and quickly be turned into money (stocks, mutual fund..), sometimes it depends upon paid employment but most often economic wealth or poverty levels are an intergenerational inheritance --- at both ends of the economic spectrum.</p><p>Disabled people are often both because disability aid programs often mandate depravation level poverty, and because disabled people are often both disinherited outright and pushed from the connections to jobs they'd otherwise be given through family networks. </p><p>*This is why it is rather ridiculous to claim it's "new" or even a "real advancement" to claim that any technology is truly disabled accessible if it's financially higher than the current average price of that item category & requires more help than those average devices would take before the disabled person can use them .</p>

It granted medical institutions the right to administer sterilisations and abortions without the consent of patients. Of the 25,000 people sterilised under the programme, according to government figures only 8,000 gave consent. The legitimacy of the consent in these cases is disputed. </p><p>"A large number of the victims were children, some as young as nine years old. In Miyagi prefecture, in the northwest of the main island, more than half of the 859 sterilised between 1963 and 1981 were under the age of 18. </p><p>"At a press conference last month in Hyogo prefecture, a <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/DeafWoman" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DeafWoman</span></a>, now in her 80s, described the emotional pain of being given an abortion without her consent. Bell, the state could—and should—'prevent those who are manifestly unfit from continuing their kind.' Forced sterilization, the court held, was not only legal but laudable.</p><p>"In 1924, 17-year-old Carrie Buck was institutionalized, having been deemed 'feebleminded' on the grounds of 'promiscuous' behavior. In reality, Buck was raped by her foster family’s nephew. Three years later, with the Court’s blessing, Virginia’s 'State Colony of Epileptics and Feeble Minded' sterilized Buck against her will. There’s no official account of just how many disabled people have been sterilized under those laws.</p><p>"Some of these laws aren’t even that old. In 2019, <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Iowa" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Iowa</span></a> and <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Nevada" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Nevada</span></a> passed new forced sterilization laws that applied to people under <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/guardianship" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>guardianship</span></a>. Both bills passed unanimously, and the end result is consistent with laws on the books in other states. Ein CNN Bericht, in dem 135 ältere, meist gehbeeinträchtigte Menschen bei Tagesanbruch aus einem betreuten Wohnheim gerettet wurden. Und in den Kommentaren unter verschiedenen Berichten streiten sich die Leute darüber, was letztendlich dazu führte, dass doch noch viele nicht evakuiert wurden. <br>Was man mitbekommt, ist das: Menschen, die über Möglichkeiten verfügten, zu evakuieren (sei es per eigenem Auto, oder über Freunde/Familie oder anderweitig), konnten das ohne Probleme tun. Andere, wie eben das Beispiel oben, konnten das nicht so einfach und waren auf andere angewiesen, die offensichtlich entweder die Entscheidung zu spät getroffen haben, oder keine Kapazitäten hatten. <br>Dazu kommt noch, dass nicht alle die gleichen Informationen hatten: manche wussten nichts von bereitgestellten Sheltern, oder von den kostenlosen Transportfahrten zu den Sheltern. <br>Und tja, ein geringer Anteil dieser sind halt einfach solche, die keinen Plan haben - "hätte nicht gedacht, dass es so schlimm wird". Während ich hier seit Tagen die Berichterstattung verfolge und mir denke, dass eigtl von Anfang an klar war, was das mit Milton geben würde.</p>
