CliffBeen home from the dentist for about an hour or so now. The appointment went a LOT better than expected, at least for today.They are referring me to an endodontist for what will likely be a root canal on one of my front teeth that I'm not excited about at all. Might take the opportunity to make a detour to <a href="https://bofh.social/tags/Carlsbad" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Carlsbad</a> and spend the night so I can check out the <a href="https://bofh.social/tags/caves" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#caves</a> the following day. I was 9 years old the last time I went there (with my dad). While I was too young to appreciate everything at the time I really did have a good time and enjoyed it. My dad and I camped and stayed in a tent in Carlsbad National Park and the night we were there a huge thunderstorm came through. I remember feeling both scared and exhilarated at the storm at the same time. Why am I going down to Mexico for dental work? Because a teeth cleaning, filling, and a new crown is costing me $580. Even with my dental insurance that would easily be $1600+ at my dentist back in Atlanta. I just frankly can't afford him any more (as much as I love him and his practice).

CaiNot sure how the root canal will treat me in the days to come, but at the moment I can at least say today is the first time in a week or more where the simple pressure of flossing between the crown tooth and its neighbor doesn't cause me pain. I'm pretty certain the assistant didn't get my bite right, though, which would mean more jaw agony in the days to come. I expressed my concern, and that my bite felt too high, but she blew it off and sent me home anyway. I cried on the drive home - mostly from the trauma of dental work because I hate it, but also from feeling completely dismissed and knowing if she is wrong and I am right, I'm in for a world of pain again. If I do need a bite adjustment (again), I'm definitely going to ask my regular dentist to do it. They're leagues ahead in terms of compassion, comfort, and patient agency.
