Tot we stilstaan.</a></strong></p><p>We werken, we plannen, we regelen. Zelfs als we met pensioen zijn of op vakantie gaan, vullen we onze dagen. We maken een lijstje voor de klusjes in huis, vegen nog even het terras aan, schuren die tuinstoelen of ruimen de schuur op. Als dat af is, plannen we de volgende fietstocht, boeken we een stedentrip of duiken we in een online cursus om iets ‘nuttigs’ te leren.</p><p>En als er écht niets meer hoeft, pakken we onze telefoon. We scrollen gedachteloos door nieuwsupdates, appen met bekenden of verliezen ons in eindeloze series, podcasts en filmpjes. Zelfs de momenten van rust vullen we met prikkels van buitenaf. Alles, behalve stilte. Alles, behalve naar binnen.</p><p>Wat is er toch aan de hand? Waarom blijven we doorgaan, zelfs als het niet meer hoeft? Wat maakt dat zoveel mensen onrustig worden wanneer de wereld even stilvalt? Verveling is het niet. Het is iets anders. Iets diepers.</p><p>Misschien komen we dan oog in oog te staan met een innerlijke onrust die we normaal gesproken weten te ontwijken. De stilte waar we zogenaamd naar verlangen, brengt ineens ongemakkelijke gevoelens met zich mee. Een hoofd dat begint te malen. Oordelen die we over onszelf vellen. Het gekwetter van onze overlever, die zegt dat we nóg beter, sneller of nuttiger moeten zijn. Of juist fluistert dat we niet genoeg zijn.</p><p>Die innerlijke onrust kent twee bronnen: de overlever en ons authentieke deel.<br>Bij mensen met een burn-out kan het stemmetje van de overlever allesoverheersend worden. Vijandig zelfs. De overlever, die ooit bedoeld was om ons veilig te houden en te beschermen, slaat dan op hol. Hij kraakt alles af, keurt niets goed en blijft ons opjagen, ook als ons lichaam allang op de rem heeft getrapt. Dat voortdurende gekwetter kan zo ondermijnend zijn dat stilte niet meer als rust voelt, maar als een gevecht dat je dreigt te verliezen.</p><p>De onrust die voortkomt uit ons authentieke deel is volgens ons een signaal. Het vertelt ons dat we het contact met onszelf zijn kwijtgeraakt. Met dat deel van ons dat geen doelen hoeft te behalen of iemand hoeft te zijn, maar er gewoon ís. Rustig. Aanwezig. Heel.</p><p>Als dat deel lange tijd verwaarloosd is, kan het pijnlijk zijn om het weer op te zoeken. We voelen dan eerder onrust dan rust. Of we ervaren somberheid, leegte of onverklaarbare spanning. Geen wonder dat we dan maar weer de agenda vullen of de telefoon pakken. We zijn verslaafd geraakt aan de externe onrust, omdat die ons beschermt tegen de innerlijke.</p><p>Maar het kan ook anders.</p><p>Neuropsychologen noemen dit ons <em>default mode network</em>: een netwerk in de hersenen dat actief wordt wanneer we even niets hoeven. We zijn dan niet gericht op een taak of de buitenwereld, maar keren naar binnen. Het is een natuurlijke staat waarin we dagdromen, reflecteren en betekenis geven aan ons leven. Een plek waar we kunnen thuiskomen bij onszelf.</p><p>En precies daar, in die innerlijke ruimte, wacht ons authentieke deel. Soms jarenlang genegeerd, onrustig geworden, maar altijd aanwezig. Genegeerd, terwijl we druk bezig waren met presteren, voldoen aan verwachtingen, of simpelweg overleven. Wanneer we onszelf eindelijk de stilte gunnen, kunnen we dit deel weer leren horen. Aanvankelijk vaak heftig, rauw en intens—alsof het jarenlang opgesloten zat en zich nu eindelijk mag laten horen. Maar gaandeweg verandert die stem. Het wordt een zachte, stille aanwezigheid die ons herinnert aan wie we werkelijk zijn.</p><p>Om die rust te kunnen ervaren, hebben we onze interne volwassene nodig, dat deel in onszelf dat het overzicht houdt, de koers bepaalt en ruimte creëert voor samenwerking tussen onze innerlijke delen: de overlever, die ons jarenlang veilig hield en beschermde, en het authentieke deel, dat verlangt naar gewoon zijn—naar leven in vrijheid, verbondenheid en rust.</p><p>Misschien is dat wel de grootste opdracht van deze tijd: leren stilvallen, zonder weg te vluchten in drukte, vermaak of afleiding. Want echte rust vind je niet buiten jezelf. Die begint vanbinnen, wanneer de interne volwassene het stuur weer in handen neemt.</p> Rob van Boven (1951) is psycholoog en geregistreerd psychotherapeut. Hij was consultant voor verschillende organisaties (drugs en verslaving counseling, vaardigheden workshops) en werkte vijftien jaar als een behandelingscoördinator in een psychiatrische instelling. Bij Rob van Boven wordt het geloof van de overlever bewust gemaakt en een juiste plaats gegeven. Het doel is om los te komen van de dwang van het geloof en bewustzijn te ontwikkelen naast deze denk- en voelpatronen. Hoe meer je van het geloof van de overlever bevrijd bent, zonder het te bestrijden, maar door het de juiste plek te geven, hoe vrijer je kan leven. <p><a href="https://plaatjes.boeddhistischdagblad.nl/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/07211932/Luuk-Mur-zwart-wit-portretje-december-2016.jpg" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"></a>Luuk Mur ( 1952) is psycholoog en heeft een drietal boeken geschreven over de door hemzelf ontwikkelde hulpverleningsmethode communitysupport. Hij is lid van de Dzogchen Community Nederland. Dzogchen is een vorm van Tibetaans boeddhisme waarbij veel belang wordt gehecht aan de ontwikkeling van individueel bewustzijn. Bij deze traditie streeft men naar non-dualiteit van het bewustzijn. Mensen zijn zich niet alleen bewust ( je weet dat je dit leest), maar je kunt je ook bewust zijn van dit eerste bewustzijn.
