I know I’m not even close to finishing my restoration of a #MacClassic, but is it too early to be thinking about #DOScember ?
I may have “accidentally” purchased an #IBM5150 for some holiday cheer.
I bought upgrades new and old for my IBM XT, but there wasn’t enough #DOScember to take a look at them then… so I thought what better time to take a look at them than tonight, live starting at 9PM EST! https://www.youtube.com/live/1JQnjEFHxGw?si=sQ9-cd4jutfNkc7M

Needs cleaning up (pencil marks), but looks pretty decent. I just need to add a floppy activity LED light and small hole for the speaker (floppy drive sounds). Then it's mounting it all inside. Not too far off now, #Doscember has turned into #Dosuary
In a classic "it's me" move, now that it's January (after the #DOScember deadline), I finally managed to boot the 486DLC into DOS.
Also wrote my first XT-IDE ROM in the process, not because it's technically needed, but because I wanted auto-detection, because I was too lazy to figure out the "geometry" of the 256MB DoM I use...
Also managed to get online using mTCP (IRC log feat. @ratman), and figured out this thing is pretty slow for a 486DLC. Oh, well...
Load up some #DOScember fireworks in your browser. Yes, the browser on your phone can emulate a complete 90s PC with ease. archive.org/details/msdo...

Last minute #DOScember entry, if fiddling with BIOS stuff counts... A while ago I bought this Soyo 386DX mainboard with a 486DLC + FPU in it from evilBay, with the intent of reproducing one of the quirky and weird setups of my youth. But that board had Mr. BIOS in it, while this thing came with AMI BIOS.
So I bought a handful of 27C512 EPROMs, burned a matching Mr. BIOS image thanks to the preservation efforts of people on Vogons.org, a quick chip swap and here we go.
The sun is about to set on #DOScember and 2024, but hopefully my Sun will let me run DOS applications into 2025 via the SunPCi card… that is, if it works - it could be my final eBay regret of 2024. Let’s find out live this evening starting at 6PM EST! https://www.youtube.com/live/DcIa4CoPl90?si=dQo7QSowlpixpzUv
A big thank you to RetroTechChris (on X) for sending these FPM RAM sticks all the way from the USA, for my #Doscember 486 build. Very much appreciated, I can't wait to test them out once my build is done
Hey #RetroComputing fediverse,
What are #Scheme Lisps compatible with #FreeDOS or #MSDOS ?
So far I found: PC Scheme, EUscheme, Gambit, SCM and KiloLisp.
Thank you
NEW VIDEO : This #Doscember there are questions to answer. Is Microsoft Flight Sim the oldest gaming series still supported? What is the future of Multimedia before any computer can do multiple media? How do you do an interactive movie that is neither interactive nor a movie? https://youtu.be/uyw92MaY0kg
What’s madness? Buying high (and low) value motherboards on eBay and thinking I can repair them, that’s what. Let’s take a look at a few DOS-compatible boards for #DOScember to see if I can repair them, live tonight starting at 6PM EST! https://www.youtube.com/live/JD_oHm54rrE?si=jY7FSAR-Z8hDcj-N
I like to install weird operating systems so I made a video about it.

Happy Friday and Merry Christmas to everyone, I've officially finished work for a two week break. What more could you want at this time of year in #Doscember than to build a dream machine from your childhood, my second PC was a 486 desktop and I'm going to build one from scratch.
