Douglas Edwards :neurodiv:<p>Speculation about the Ukraine debacle: I suspect that Vance may have deliberately sabotaged the meeting by pushing Trump's buttons in a way specifically designed to elicit Trump's worst possible behavior. Vance may believe that if he goads Trump into creating enough chaos, it may eventually become possible to 25 Trump, or impeach him, and become President — or <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/dictator" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dictator</span></a>. Vance wants the imperial "unitary executive" Presidency to succeed, but he wants Trump personally to fail.</p><p>Trump and Musk have been getting most of the attention since the election. But I've never believed Trump could really make it through the full four years. Well before November 2028, we'll see President Vance. And in the past, under other, less exigent circumstances, I've repeatedly voted for (and contributed to) <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/BernieSanders" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BernieSanders</span></a> in the primaries, and multiple <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/GreenParty" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GreenParty</span></a> candidates in the general elections.</p><p>The <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/JackassParty" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>JackassParty</span></a> has KILLED HOPE by refusing to halt the bloodsucking of the economy by the billionaire class and by corporations — even in Obama's first term, when they had a filibuster-proof supermajority in the Senate. If fascism is to be stopped, economic radicalism is not a luxury, but a necessity.</p>

We COULD get the bottom-of-hell scenario where <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/Trump" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Trump</span></a> tries to implement <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/Project2025" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Project2025</span></a> across the board right away, along with all of his own most ridiculous and vicious economic plans. Or, at the other extreme, he could act more like a normal Republican President, especially if the Supreme Court performs better than expected, and blocks the most blatantly unconstitutional moves. </p><p>I'm guessing it will be somewhere in between. He'll drop some of the most obviously and desperately unpopular ideas, that he personally doesn't care about, and which he knows will offend large swaths of his own base, like cutting Social Security or banning pornography. But there are a couple of core ideas where he probably believes his own propaganda and will go all out: notably, mass deportations and draconian punitive tariffs. The former will cause massive social upheaval, and the latter will wreck the economy in short order. <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/CommanderVance" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CommanderVance</span></a> may also convince him to get serious about putting every possible obstacle in the way of abortion choice, however unpopular that may be. We're in for a rough ride even if only a few of Trump's campaign promises are implemented.</p><p>Further down the road: there is no way Trump makes it through 4 years. Eventually we'll get President <a href="https://zeroes.ca/tags/Vance" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Vance</span></a>. And he is 100 times as vicious as Trump, especially towards women. Misogyny is an incidental to Trump; for Vance, it's a core value. He's also 100 times crazier and more fanatical than Trump, despite his greater ability to adopt a temporary mask of sanity. I can hardly dare guess what HE will do.</p>

A defensive, rather than aggressive, motivation?</p><p>Instead of imagining <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Trump" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Trump</span></a> as a dictator, try imagining <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/CommanderVance" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CommanderVance</span></a> as a dictator.</p>
