I wake before the alarm, but in a vaguely sore and resentful mood. Drink coffee, eat toast, hit the road, arriving at Roosevelt Circle at 7:30 and setting up my various accoutrements. Today's hand-held sign is EVERY DISASTER MOVIE STARTS WITH A SCIENTIST BEING IGNORED. Craige, no doubt sensibly, is staying home today.

Monday morning is warm and pleasant enough, and I can feel my remaining brain cells bumping against one another as I walk up to Roosevelt Circle, arriving at 7:30 to a solo hour, Craige staying at home today. I set up my ALL-BLACK signage, rest my bod and my butt on the guardrail, and settle in for the hour.

I set up my big sign and my speaker, then lean on the guardrail while holding up SCIENTIFIC IGNORANCE IS A BAD FOUNDATION FOR PUBLIC POLICY. Craige arrives a few minutes later, checks in, then leaves me to my practice.

Well, hell, here it is July and I'm still alive and kicking. My wife & daughter returned around 6:45 this morning from visiting family in CA, having taken the redeye and landed in Boston around 6. I greeted them both and continued my preparations, hitting the road, and arriving at Roosevelt Circle at 7:30 under cloudy skies.

This morning started out anomalously, as I woke two hours earlier than usual. Wife & daughter are traveling to California for a family visit, and at 5 AM the house smelled wonderfully of coffee. After they left for the airport I tried to go back to sleep but failed, and eventually got up, drank my own coffee, finished ten voter postcards, and finally hit the road.

Just saw that there was an "unprecedented algal bloom" in a river in Australia. I think it's completely dishonest at this point to use "un" - just about everything that is related to climate chaos is precedented but, no, let's keep pretending we're in the beginning stages.

I have been in Oxford for the last month, attending university talks and seminars on subjects of interest.
