Weltschmerz à Gogo<p>"Natalism" conference coming to Austin, TX, in a few weeks. Speakers include white nationalist Charles Cornish-Dale (aka Raw Egg Nationalist), race-"science" advocate Jordan Lasker (aka Cremieux), and tradwife and former contributor to a magazine run by the eugenicist Claremont Institute "Peachy Keenan". Kind of makes you wonder: natalism for whom? 🤔 </p><p><a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/mar/03/natal-conference-austin-texas-eugenics" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">theguardian.com/us-news/2025/m</span><span class="invisible">ar/03/natal-conference-austin-texas-eugenics</span></a></p><p><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/eugenics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>eugenics</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/natalism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>natalism</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/RaceScience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RaceScience</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Cremieux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Cremieux</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Austin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Austin</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Texas" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Texas</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/TradWife" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TradWife</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/WhiteNationalism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WhiteNationalism</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/RawEggNationalist" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RawEggNationalist</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/PeachyKeenan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PeachyKeenan</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/RichardLynn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RichardLynn</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/MankindQuarterly" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MankindQuarterly</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/ClaremontInstitute" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ClaremontInstitute</span></a></p>
Weltschmerz à Gogo<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@franebleu" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>franebleu</span></a></span> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@photoncollector" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>photoncollector</span></a></span> </p><p>It depends how you mean it. There were lots of groups populated by members of the elite to advocate for particular reactionary causes that might overlap, to a greater or lesser extent, with the Heritage Foundation's goals.</p><p>Maybe most notable was the America First Committee (actually only founded in Sept. 1940, but close enough). It was different from the Heritage Foundation in that it brought together a really disparate coalition, but it did represent a pretty fashy outlook (which is why their primary goal was to keep the US out of WWII) and basically sought to convince people that what happens in Germany stays in Germany.</p><p>The second wave of the KKK was already fading by 1939, but still fairly potent in some areas. It was different from HF in that it was kind of a social club with a right-wing, racist "activist" element. But it was also a political machine that was successful in locking down public office in a lot of places, particularly throughout Indiana and in pockets in other states.</p><p>The American Eugenics Society was going full steam ahead throughout the 1930s. I think a lot of HF people would push back at being associated with eugenics, but it's worth keeping in mind that the ideology of the AES and its members tended to be extremely elitist, anti-immigrant, and white supremacist; the whole point of eugenics was to "preserve" and "improve" a kind of idealized northern European racial "type". And given the HF's combination of elitism and xenophobia with a desire to control other people's reproduction, there's at least a whiff of a similarity. Also, see the next paragraph...</p><p>It's also worth noting that Heritage isn't the only think tank in the elite right-wing orbit. Probably the most notorious right now is the Claremont Institute, which does, in fact, advocate for eugenics (they claim they don't because they don't use that term, but in practice, they're all for it); last year, the HF gave Claremont its "Heritage Innovation Prize", which comes with $100k.</p><p>The Center for Renewing America is another. It is run by its founder and president Russ Vought, who is now the director of the Office of Management and Budget under Trump, and he was a driving force behind HF's Project 2025 document.</p><p>Anyways, there are lots of echoes from the 1930s today. Not exactly the same, but clearly there are historical and ideological linkages that are worth exploring.</p><p><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/fascism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fascism</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/HeritageFoundation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HeritageFoundation</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/ClaremontInstitute" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ClaremontInstitute</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/RussVought" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RussVought</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/eugenics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>eugenics</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/xenophobia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>xenophobia</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/racism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>racism</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/KKK" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>KKK</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/AmericaFirst" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AmericaFirst</span></a></p>

AnarchoNinaAnalyzes<p>And for those of you looking to do a little extra reading on the objectively fascist think tank mentioned in these posts, The Claremont Institute, here's a 2023 article from The New Republic that should be quite enlightening and alarming:</p><p><a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20240815165400/https://newrepublic.com/article/174656/claremont-institute-think-tank-trump" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">web.archive.org/web/2024081516</span><span class="invisible">5400/https://newrepublic.com/article/174656/claremont-institute-think-tank-trump</span></a></p><p>"Extremism of the right-wing variety has always figured on the sidelines of American culture, and it has enjoyed a renaissance with the rise of social media. And they stand a reasonable chance of being seated at the highest levels of government—at the right hand of a President Trump or a President DeSantis, for example."</p><p><a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/Fascism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Fascism</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/USPol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>USPol</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/ClaremontInstitute" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ClaremontInstitute</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/Trump" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Trump</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/GOP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GOP</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/ThinkTank" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ThinkTank</span></a></p>
AnarchoNinaAnalyzes<p>(Continued from the post above)</p><p>The second issue here is that JD Vance was speaking at the release party for a book titled "Up from Conservatism," which he glowingly commended. The book, again written mostly by minions from a fascist think tank called the Claremont Institute, argues among other things that "conservatives" need to "free their minds from the fear" of being called racists, while the author of this section, David Azerrad, repeats white nationalist talking points about African Americans, crime, and intelligence. A second author, Helen Andrews, promotes ending education subsidies, promoting male-dominated careers, and cutting assistance for child care as a method of coercing women to leave the workforce and essentially become tradwife mothers. A third writer, Scott Yenor, accuses the U.S. of operating under a "Queer Constitution" and advocates for drastic intervention by the state in everybody's sex lives: “in the states, new obscenity laws for a more obscene world should be adopted. Pornography companies and websites should be investigated for their myriad public ills like sex trafficking, addictions, and ruined lives. The justice of anti-discrimination must be revisited.” The book’s editor, Arthur Milikh, also calls for the complete destruction of the American education system, the militarization (no I'm not kidding) of childhood education, including teaching students to build and operate firearms, and the abolishment of sociology and social studies programs at public universities. </p><p>I should also mention that most of the people writing in Up from Conservatism have a track record of endorsing even *more* openly white nationalist views and activities; including support for white supremacist apartheid regimes like the former governments of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and South Africa, and one of the writers founded a secretive far right "fraternal order" while running a fascist conspiracy website in Idaho that demonized LGBTQ people and went after Republicans deemed not fascist enough for this brave new world order (of nazis.) </p><p>These are the people Vance is happy to support, and the ideas he thinks are commendable. All of which would be a serious problem if he were only just a Senator from Ohio, but reaches the level of catastrophe when you realize that Vance is on the cusp of entering the White House as a vital part of a Trump administration. An administration that through proposals like those found in Up from Conservatism, or Project 2025 would invest Trump's administration with the power to stack the government full of fascists, override our checks and balances on presidential power, and install deeply unpopular fascist policies like the ones detailed in this book that JD Vance loves so much.</p><p>And if supporting all of that *doesn't* make Vance a fascist, then we should just do away with the word entirely because it would no longer have any meaning. I happen to think the word fascist does still have a meaning, and calling out fascism when you see it is an important part of opposing fascism and the fascists that support it. Which is why I think it's long past time the media and the political class started being honest about what guys like JD Vance represent. Vance is a fascist, and there's no responsible way to deny it.</p><p><a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/Fascism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Fascism</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/JDVance" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>JDVance</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/USPol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>USPol</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/Trump" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Trump</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/ClaremontInstitute" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ClaremontInstitute</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/GOP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GOP</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/ArthurMilikh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ArthurMilikh</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/DavidAzerrad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DavidAzerrad</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/HelenAndrews" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HelenAndrews</span></a> # ScottYenor</p>

The Guardian · Revealed: US conservative thinktank’s links to extremist fraternal orderBy Jason Wilson

From the article:

Boise State University (BSU) professor and Claremont Institute scholar Scott Yenor was the hidden hand behind Action Idaho, a far-right online media platform that featured inflammatory rightwing commentary on politics in that state, documents obtained by the Guardian reveal.

The documents, obtained through public records requests, also show that Yenor sought and received funding for the initiative from wealthy and influential donors like Claremont Institute board chair, Thomas D Klingenstein.

He also attempted to hire a rising conservative writer, Pedro Gonzalez, to lead the initiative. Gonzalez was later embroiled in a controversy about antisemitic remarks he made in online chats in 2019 and 2020. They also show him tapping a network of expertise that overlaps both with the Claremont Institute and the Society for American Civic Renewal (SACR), a secretive fraternal Christian Nationalist organization the Guardian has reported on extensively.
