Corgi Dad<p>Needed to make a quick charging stop in Eastham because I forgot to charge to 100% before leaving for Provincetown, and the extra drag from the bike rack made the efficiency worse. Obviously the bike design is not optimized for the aerodynamic when it's sideways 😜</p><p>I could charge near Ptown long enough so I can make it home, but 1) Ptown's DC charger is a Tesla supercharger, as much as I don't want give money to Musk, it is also not 800V output, meaning the Taycan only takes around 140-150kw, which is not so much different from the 120kw I can get from this ChargePoint. 2) as I don't drive much, I need to take advantage of the Electrify America free charging when I have the opportunity.</p><p>So a quick 9 mins charge from 11% to 22% and we got on the way to the Electrify America in Hyannis. Corgi Dad<p>SLOW level 2 AC public charger @ Newport RI transportation center</p><p>The chargers are outside the garage so you only pay $1.5 / hour for charging for the first 4 hours. Way cheaper than parking ($2.5 per 30 mins)</p><p>But it is very slow. Rated 6.2kw, but I only got peak 5.9kw. Corgi Dad<p>On the way back home from North Shore I thought I’d charge up for Newport trip tomorrow. Stopped at Assembly EA station. There were a swarm of KIA EVs waiting, even though the app shows 1 charger was available…</p><p>Pulled up EVgo app and found a very high power ChargePoint station nearby… at Ford Dealer (I use that dealer for my truck 🤣) 320kw - wow! I preconditioned the battery so it was nice and toasty and ready to accept maximum charge. So I drove there. And it worked so well. Though it’s very expensive - greedy car dealers!!</p><p>The charging curve was impressive on Taycan. Started at 40% SoC, pulling in 282kw maximum. Still pulling in over 200kw at 72%. I expect that it includes a large battery (perhaps just below the panels). A friend and I parked in a garage last night and tried to get his car charged using <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/chargepoint" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>chargepoint</span></a>. First we tried using a credit card, and it said wifi was down as we couldn't do it, then I tried the app, and a similar issue. This won't help sell <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/EVs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EVs</span></a> to the public.</p>
Owainski<p>Currently fiddling with the <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/ChargePoint" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ChargePoint</span></a> Home adaptable amperage in order to get to it charge at a rate my <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/solarpanels" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>solarpanels</span></a> can feed. The default 48A is way more and requires grid supplemental; between 22A-28A seems to be the safest range during the majority of the producing day.</p><p>If only there was a programmable way to measure solar generation and adjust it slowly rather than doing it manually throughout the day.</p>

Owainski<p>Just installed a <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/ChargePoint" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ChargePoint</span></a> L2 system at home and plugged the <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/ID4" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ID4</span></a> into it; Sense's power meter shows consumption jumped about 10kW; by comparison the L1 charger it came with was about 1kW. At max output, my <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/solarpanels" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>solarpanels</span></a> put out 7kW and aren't going to be able to keep up with this. The grid wins this round.</p>
