Ed ChiversGaming updates from the weekend:- Picked up the physical, "dead tree" version of the <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/Shadowdark" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Shadowdark</a> rulebook at my friendly local game store yesterday. Some of the folks at work have set up a game using the quickstart rules and we've really been enjoying it.- Finished "Chants of Sennaar" this afternoon. Author-ized L.J.I'm going through a Simplified Chinese play of <a href="https://writeout.ink/tags/%E7%81%AB%E5%B1%B1%E7%9A%84%E5%A5%B3%E5%85%92" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#火山的女兒</a> ( <a href="https://writeout.ink/tags/VolcanoPrincess" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#VolcanoPrincess</a>) and finished a Traditional Chinese play of <a href="https://writeout.ink/tags/ChantsOfSennaar" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#ChantsOfSennaar</a>. The 火女 replay has been on pause for a while, maybe because this is my fourth replay overall (first three playthroughs were in Korean), or maybe because it's a pain reading that much text in Chinese--I suspect the latter 😂 I think this was my first Trad Chinese play of Chants, since the last time I played in Chinese it was probably Simplified. AngelaI played a new game called Chants of Sennaar, and I enjoyed it. I would swear I had already written about this, but I don't see it in my previous toots?My son suggested it to me because he had seen it reviewed by one of the gamers he follows. My kiddo thought I would enjoy it because it's a puzzle and language game. Wow, he does know me.He had initially thought he would build a custom level in Fortnite that was an homage to Chants of Sennaar, and then he was going to have me play that. But his ideas were pretty big, and he realized it would take him a year to accomplish that. That's when he said, "Mom, you may as well play the real game, because I may never actually get this finished."I appreciate his honesty. And I also kind of appreciate not having to go play a custom Fortnite level...So I got the real thing on Steam.It did not take long to play the game, but even though it was relatively short, I enjoyed it. My son sat with me a few times (he could not help giving me hints) and it was fun to work through the puzzles with him.It's a single-player game, the graphics are relatively simple (but attractive), and the gameplay is pretty easy. You click your mouse where you want the character to move, and you type in a notebook when you want to make a note about what a glyph means.If you like games where you have to solve some puzzles, don't mind running around, and you enjoy piecing together simple languages (in the form of written glyphs and transcribed conversations), you might give Chants of Sennaar a try. Since it's an approachable video game, the linguistics never gets super complicated, but they do mix things up enough that it's not just a funny way to write English. Sono stati giorni di ghirigori e appunti presi su foglietti volanti che letti da altri mi avrebbero fatto passare per pazzo, ma la soddisfazione che ho provato man mano che decifravo le lingue della torre e riuscivo a far comunicare i popoli dei vari piani vale da sola tutto il gioco.(Poi è perfetto da giocare su Steam Deck; i foglietti li ho usati in aggiunta al sistema di associazioni dei glifi del gioco per ragionarci meglio ^^)
