My Mum's first car was an #NSU Prinz, not sure if it was a Prinz 4 or a Prinz 1000.
Sort of academic as she hadn't yet learnt to drive and my recollection is it didn't work properly!
I am not sure she even remembers it but it it made an impression on the young me!
I think I was just bowled over we suddenly had a car...

Check out this cool fact! Back in 1933, Czech vehicle manufacturer #Tatra helped design the prototype for the Tatra V570, a sleek, rear-engined, air-cooled car that was both cheap to build and affordable for everyone. Sound familiar? Well, it should because the Volkswagen #Beetle looked so much like it that in 1965, #Volkswagen had to pay a hefty settlement to Tatra. #CarHistory #DidYouKnow 🚗💡

The Volkswagen EA 276 Concept, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro of Italdesign in 1969, was a significant precursor to the Volkswagen Golf. This concept vehicle showcased innovative features that would later influence the golf's design, which became one of Volkswagen's most successful models.

The EA 276 Concept featured a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout, which was a departure from the traditional rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive configuration of the Volkswagen Beetle. It was equipped with a 1.0-litre, air-cooled, flat-four engine that produced 45 horsepower, providing adequate performance for its time.

While the EA 276 Concept was never produced, its design elements and engineering principles were carried forward and refined in subsequent Volkswagen models, particularly the Golf. The concept's emphasis on reliability, low development costs, and practicality, combined with its forward-thinking design, laid the groundwork for the success of the Golf and other Volkswagen vehicles in the years to come.

Fans of may note more than a hint of in the expectations in Elon's numbers.
"Musk said could need as few as 10 models to achieve annual sales of 20m vehicles a year. That would be an average of 2m sales each year for each model line. By comparison, Japan’s , the world’s largest automaker by volume, sells just over 1m Corollas a year globally."

The GuardianMusk unveils plans for low production cost while skirting affordable car optionBy Guardian staff reporter

Hello #Histodon!

I have a question for you: when early #automobiles were introduced like the #ModelT, what were people buying them for?

I’ve been trying to look at #HistoricalAdvertising to get a sense of who was buying these vehicles and what they were doing with them, but I’m struggling to find more.

Is anyone here particularly familiar with #TransportationHistory from the #1900s and #1910s in America?

Boosts appreciated!
