A quotation from Nassim Nicholas Taleb

Categorizing is necessary for humans, but it becomes pathological when the category is seen as definitive, preventing people from considering the fuzziness of boundaries, let alone revising their categories.

Nassim Nicholas Taleb (b. 1960) Lebanese-American essayist, statistician, risk analyst, aphorist
The Black Swan, Part 1, ch. 1 “The Apprenticeship of an Empirical Skeptic” (2007)

A quotation from Teddy Roosevelt

It is not possible to lay down an inflexible rule as to when compromise is right and when wrong; when it is a sign of the highest statesmanship to temporize, and when it is merely a proof of weakness. Now and then one can stand uncompromisingly for a naked principle and force people up to it. This is always the attractive course; but in certain great crises it may be a very wrong course. Compromise, in the proper sense, merely means agreement; in the proper sense opportunism should merely mean doing the best possible with actual conditions as they exist.
A compromise which results in a half-step toward evil is all wrong, just as the opportunist who saves himself for the moment by adopting a policy which is fraught with future disaster is all wrong; but no less wrong is the attitude of those who will not come to an agreement through which, or will not follow the course by which, it is alone possible to accomplish practical results for good.

Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) American politician, statesman, conservationist, writer, US President (1901-1909)
Essay (1900-06), “Latitude and Longitude Among Reformers,” The Century Magazine, Vol. 60, No. 2

"Tri-Rail's express service will include only five stops — West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Hialeah and Miami — instead of the usual 19 stops from West Palm to Miami. The cost of a roundtrip to Miami will be about $17.50 and about $12.50 for a roundtrip to Fort Lauderdale."

2/2 I took the Brightline train for my 1st time from Miami to Orlando
Good:
-check in/security was quick & easy
-pretty smooth ride
-segments hit 125 mph speed
-decent legroom
-many usb ports
Bad:
-seats were uncomfortable
-windows were wrapped like a microwave, couldn’t enjoy scenery (I like to stare out the window when riding a train)

"...demonize the Jewish state and promote hate on campus. The guest speakers’ claims reeked of antisemitism throughout."

These efforts to lockdown a #brightline test for #antisemitism are very much about this: demonizing #israel . That point is spot on and very revealing of the underlying #antisemitism which is the driving force. The rest is just cherries on top.

Yes, distinguish #antizionism , and criticize away. But consider motivations.
