ACA SignupsGood News (for now)! 5th Circuit issues stay of #Braidwood preventative services ruling! There's been another development in the long, winding saga of the Kelley / Braidwood v. Becerra federal lawsuit, which seeks to strike down the Affordable Care Act's preventative services provisions requiring health insurance providers to cover a long list of preventative healthcare services at no out of pocket cost to enrollees. For the full backstory behind this case (and why a plaintiff win against the government here would be far more devastating than "just" the specific provisions being struck down), read my prior post (with many updates) on the case. The most recent development came on March 30th, 2023: Judge Reed O'Connor STRIKES DOWN a major provision of the Affordable Care Act requiring insurers to cover a vast amount of preventive care cost-free (contraception, cancer screening, PrEP, a ton of pregnancy-related care). The ruling applies nationwide. https://t.co/wL26vkIPsd — Mark Joseph Stern (@mjs_DC) March 30, 2023 As stern goes on to note: Here is a list of the many, many preventive care treatments that insurers must cover cost-free under the ACA. Reed O'Connor just struck down the entire section of the law mandating this coverage. This is a gigantic blow to the ACA and U.S. health care. O'Connor rules that the U.S.

#MARYLAND: Insurance Dept. clarifies that #Braidwood decision does NOT impact preventative services in MD (including #PrEP): acasignups.net/23/04/05/maryla

ACA SignupsMaryland: Insurance Dept. clarifies that #Braidwood decision does NOT impact preventative services (including PrEP) in MDvia the Maryland Insurance Administration: Consumer Advisory: Maryland-issued health insurance policies are not impacted by Braidwood Management, Inc. v. Becerra; preventative services, including PrEP, are still required to be covered BALTIMORE – Health insurance policies (including HMO plans) issued in Maryland are not impacted by a recent ruling by a federal judge in Texas that health plans do not have to cover certain preventive services. In Braidwood Management, Inc. v. Becerra, Judge Reed O'Connor of the Federal District Court for the Northern District of Texas decided that the federal government cannot enforce a part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that requires health plans to cover certain preventative services recommended by a special federal task force without any patient cost-sharing. The task force recommendations addressed by the ruling include a range of services including screening tests, immunizations, behavioral counseling, and medications such as PrEP that can prevent the development or worsening of diseases and health conditions. The ruling, issued on March 30, 2023, took effect against the federal government immediately nationwide.

@SydneyCityTV Today we listened to Braidwood FM for a few hours, and it really inspired the need for a #Sizzletown-type podcast

We heard the weather report — here it is verbatim: “Currently it is 19 degrees.”

But they pay for AIR news and sport, and they have a full music service — following two tracks from Cardi B and Lil Nas, we got a country music single and then some Pet Shop Boys.

That’s the kind of variety a mainstream regional AM station can only dream of #braidwood

Cool article about the Hidden Books movement. It's a bit like geocaching meets little free libraries, with a focus on kids' books. I love the idea of discovering books tucked away in secret spaces around the city, like magical items in an RPG!

ABC NewsHidden books in NSW town Braidwood taking kids on literary treasure hunts to encourage readingBy Jessica Clifford

Does anyone remember #BookCrossing? I wonder if it is still a thing. 📖

It was about leaving a book in a public place so that it would be found by a stranger. You would attach a label to the book prior to its 'release' that included a unique code called BCID (bookcrossing.com/howto). So when found, the person would hopefully enter the code in the #BookCrossing Website and it would create a trail of the book, which eventually should be 'released' for the next person. Or something like that...

I remember leaving quite a few books in park benches. But I never received a ping about their location, so I supposed they were lost or thrown to the garbage.

Anyway, it seems that they are trying something somewhat similar in the #NSW town of #Braidwood, with the idea of motivating kids to read books 👍
