Western Bluebird at Bette Davis Picnic Area. “You will never be happier than you expect. To change your happiness, change your expectation.” Bette Davis would have made a lousy Bluebird of Happiness. And, Bluebird of Pithy Realistic Observations isn’t a thing.

I'm SO excited that a bluebird found the bluebird box that I put up a couple weeks ago!!!

While making breakfast this morning, I noticed a bird on the box and grabbed the binoculars to check out what is was. It was a beautiful male bluebird investigating and taking stock of the new real estate: sitting on top, hanging off the front, going in and coming back out. I'm hoping he finds it satisfactory and decides to move in.

And then I did a little dance in the kitchen. 🥰

This beautiful guy and his mate are nesting in my backyard. I hope to get a good photo of them together at some point. The female will not go into the bird house while I am out in the yard. So when I see her perch near her house, I go inside and watch from the kitchen window and then she flies right in. So fun to watch.

#MakeShitMonday, #bluebird box edition...

We've had a bluebird box in our garage for years. I'm pretty sure someone gave it to us as a gift, but it's been so long I can't remember who. I've never put it up because (1) I never got a pole or post to mount it on., and (2) it doesn't open, so it would be impossible to clean it.

When my @llorenzin's mom moved last summer, she gave us her nice post from Wild Birds Unlimited, and last week I stopped by the local WBU shop and bought a mounting bracket. That took care of (1).

Then I finally took the time to modify the bluebird box so the front will hinge open for cleaning. That took care of (2).

Now we have a bluebird box in our yard!

(The bluebirds locally are just about to start their 3rd brood, so we might - or might not - get any nesting this year.)
