EDIT: the following is from another conversation about this; I feel like I should explain why this is a concern I have:
My Tourette's makes me tense muscles and/or hold my breath sometimes. This is just an exaggerated version of that. So now I'm worried that some of the readings I've had over the years that were (somewhat) high (never that high, thankfully)… may or may not have even been accurate. I just wanted to test this, to see if I could purposely throw it by mimicking what my own TS does for me at times, just more so. And it worked. So now if they put an automatic blood pressure cuff on me at the doctor's office, which is what they usually do, and it reads somewhat high, am I supposed to believe that? Or am I supposed to believe that I was tensed up and/or holding my breath because of my condition?
Original post (this one, before the edit):
Okay, well, I no longer trust automatic blood pressure cuffs, because I've figured out how to trick them into thinking I'm having a hypertensive crisis when I'm actually not.
Baseline, relaxed:
109/71
Flexing my arm and purposely straining really hard, immediately after that:
151/125
Immediately after that, relaxed again:
123/74
All readings were taken against my left upper arm, level with the heart, like they're supposed to be.
