Rice harvest in Bhaktapur. The city streets are filled with the harvest, and drying the grain.
Bhaktapur just always throws a party when we hit town! Processions of drums and dancing moving through the streets today, right as we arrived at the palace square.
Such joyful folks. Newari is the main ethnic group in this part of Kathmandu Valley.
Sometimes people join me in Nepal for a tour or workshop and they love shooting landscapes because they're just not comfortable with street photography or asking strangers to take their photo.
But then we sit on an ancient monument to watch the sun go down and a bunch of teenagers join us and demand a photo session. Extra nice when other people overcome our internal shyness.
The streets of Bhaktapur are marvellous in the early mornings. Tourist start arriving here around 9 or 10am, but until then it's just another local village.
Kathmandu Valley is a broad region, with a few big cities beyond Kathmandu itself. One of my faves is Bhaktapur where we get to enjoy a glimpse of what it must have been like to visit Kathmandu a few decades ago.
Great laneways and a marvellous Durbar Square.
