hambitiousJune 20, 2013: woke up at Katahdin Steam campground, and made breakfast. After eating I finished loading up my backpack, and gave it a weigh. It was heavier than I would have liked, but it is a long distance to the next town and resupply. <br> I then said goodbye to my parents, who had to go back to the real world, and started walking south. I spent most of the day in Baxter SP. In the afternoon I reached the road and crossed it into the 100-mile wilderness. I stayed at the first shelter there.<br> <br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/AppalachianTrail?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#AppalachianTrail</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/AT?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#AT</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/thruHike?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#thruHike</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/maine?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#maine</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/hiking?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#hiking</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/BaxterStatePark?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#BaxterStatePark</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/katahdin?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#katahdin</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/sobo?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#sobo</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/at2013?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#at2013</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/AppalachianTrail2013?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#AppalachianTrail2013</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/stream?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#stream</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/outdoors?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#outdoors</a>
hambitiousJune 19, 2013: after waking up at our campsite, my parents and I hiked up to the summit of Katahdin, the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. From the famous sign, I took the first steps of my southbound thru hike. Not the emotional moment it is for northbounders, but it was the start of a life changing hike. <br> I ended that evening back at the same campsite, about 5 miles down the trail, still with my parents. <br> <br> <a href="https://longgreentunnel.blogspot.com/2013/07/day-1-6-19.html?m=1" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://longgreentunnel.blogspot.com/2013/07/day-1-6-19.html?m=1</a><br> <br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/hiking?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#hiking</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/AT?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#AT</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/AppalachianTrail?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#AppalachianTrail</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/sobo?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#sobo</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/ThruHike?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#ThruHike</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/maine?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#maine</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/katahdin?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#katahdin</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/BaxterStatePark?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#BaxterStatePark</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/outdoors?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#outdoors</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/AppalachianTrail2013?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#AppalachianTrail2013</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/at2013?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#at2013</a>
