Have you read Nora Bateson? After enjoying her previous Small Arcs of Larger Circles I recently got her latest book Combining, and can already highly recommend getting that in print simply for being the most beautifully produced piece of art I have ever held in book form

I think the single most important person to read in order to be able to understand a _vast_ swathe of current cultural anthropology is Gregory #Bateson, and I wish he were read more than he is. I’ve dreamt about teaching a seminar that starts with cybernetics, goes through Bateson, and lands in a variety of theoretical standpoints. Structuralism, linguistic anth, anthropology of ethics (and a good chunk of work on religion, ritual), Actor-Network Theory, and a lot of “French” theory.
