I'd known Ben, the lead singer, for years, but this was the first time I saw them, and crikey, did I get some good photos.
And I even managed to blag my way backstage!
This is one of my fave photos of these guys, and this is almost exactly how it came out of the camera, all I've done is crop it slightly and slap a watermark on there.
There is an even better edit in there somewhere, but for now, I'm happy with this.

A massively over-exposed long exposure mixed with a snap zoom and an explosion of stage lights, leaving only a vague impression of what is actually there. It starts with a close-up of the head and upper body of a man with shoulder-length hair and wearing a dark t-shirt with a white text logo. His face and most of the background are blown out, massively over-exposed, along with the logo on the t-shirt, while dark areas of the image (his hair, t-shirt, and part of the ceiling behind him) are a light blue. A snap zoom out has a full length view of him, slightly hunched over, playing a guitar. Again, all details have been lost, blown out by the exposure, only blue shadows remaining.

They tried warning me off going to this gig, thinking I would hate it, as everything I had experienced with these two over the years had involved metal bands (I'd known Ben for 10 years and at least 2 bands at this point, and had met Iain… somewhere… along the way, but certainly at least 5 years!), but I loved it!

Bonus Photo of the Day 24th March 2014.

Kamikaze Six on stage for a Halloween gig at The Roadhouse, Manchester, 31st October 2014.
Jess, the singer and bassist, is my cousin, and she asked me to take some photos, and it turns out that the guitarist knew one of my friends as well, so it was quite an interesting experience.
One of their songs, The Thrill Of The Chase, is the soundtrack to one scene in a novel I was writing at the time - I didn't hear it until after writing that section, but it fitted perfectly.
I really must finish writing that thing…

I was actually asked to take photos of the opening band, Ji, but took the opportunity to get some of this guy in action.
It was a pleasure watching the band warm up before soundcheck, ~90 minutes of non-stop, utterly enthralling blues-rock - it was just a pity their actual material was painfully MOTR - not bad, but not as good as the stuff they played for fun.
