Edit: I think it’s probably a baby grackle!
I would love help with a #BirdID if anyone can assist!
I saw this baby bird in Western Massachusetts on a reedy tuft near the edge of a marsh. I think it was a little bigger than an adult American robin.

For your listening enjoyment, here are eight seconds of baby sparrows chirping in a hidden nest in the eaves above our front door. Happy Spring!
I can’t help but smile when I look at this

#BabyBird #FinchFest2025 update: they fledged early this morning.
I just went out to check on the last one who was in the nest. I startled it and it flew quite vigorously 30 feet away upwards and into a tree! They are very different to baby robins.
I was able to unroll the porch shade and take the nest out now that they're all gone (it's ok to do that at this point). For future broods, I plan to nail up some sort of platforms in the corners above the columns on my porch. One will be at the intersection of the two rollup shades, and hopefully the finches will get the idea. I might put their current nesting material up there once I get it figured out.
The babies will be on the ground and in trees for a couple weeks with their parents still watching over them and feeding them, but the parent finches have now successfully gotten their babies past the first big hurdle! Luckily my front yard is mostly native plants and small trees that are easy to access for little fledglings. so there are plenty of places for the babies to hide.
As finches are territorial and they brood 2-3x a year, the pair will probably drive their babies away from here in about six weeks to find their own territory.
I think I'm going to move the camera to the birdfeeder area until the finches get another nest going. Hopefully it will not be in one of the rollup shades this time! I need to use those this summer.
Larry, Curly, and Moe are still in the nest, but growing fast!
Mama bird has been bringing in new sticks to expand to hold the chonky kids.
I think we will have some fledgling flights any day now.
A couple of days ago, #DonutTheCat came into the garden with this little bird in her mouth. It appeared totally unharmed, but understandably a tad disturbed. I put it in the ivy in front of the house, so no cats could easily get to it. I really hope it found its way...
This photo is from inside the house through a gap in a covering on one of my windows because I can't get a photo of her without her flying away if I open the front door.
It was quite hot for about an hour on the porch, and mama and babies were panting and lifting their wings. The babies are getting really big!
#BabyBird update: THEY HAVE LITTLE WING FEATHERS NOW!!!
They were really smart, building their nest nestled deeply in this rolled up shade.
#BabyBird update!
Looks like there are three and they are growing quickly. Papa seems to be away at night and mama sits the nest then.
I think my camera must make some kind of small noise when it turns on bc they always look up at it when I check in.
