I'm used to reading aloud. I've done a LOT of readings, including hour-long readings without once ever stumbling over my lines. Last night, possibly because I'd had a headache and gut issues all day, I stumbled three times during my reading, improvising and remixing my sentences as I went so it didn't sound awkward. And what do you know, it worked. The audience was literally leaning into my words.

The other authors did fantastic jobs. I want to buy all their books.

Afterwards, I bought Cherie Dimaline's "Hunting By Stars," and she signed it for me.

My wife, Christina F. York, got her author copies of her new novel today, "Hungry Like the Wolf," the first Battletech romance! It started as an April fools joke, but there was so much response they decided to recruit Chris to surprise everyone on Valentine's day. This was done on such a tight schedule that she's only seeing it today. Note the technical pages. You don't see things like that in a romance novel very often!

Time for an updated intro:

Greetings!

I'm an author of speculative fiction from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I currently have eight published novel-length books, with a ninth on the way in early 2026!

You can find all sorts of info about my written works on my official website: michaelshotter.com

I am also the co-host of "The Post Mortem Report," a unique speculative-fiction authorcast that made its debut back in 2022: postmortemreport.com

I did plotting for book 2 of my current WIP and no matter how hard I try the dynamic for this couple is so fluffy: 'I want to hold your hand as the entire world spits and curses us' type of vibe. It'll be a while but wow will this be a shift from my typical 'the love interest is also the villain' novels.

Question: Are other authors dragged around by the wills of their characters?
