Still unpacking in the new place, but here was my sweet little desktop setup back in Florida
Cool upcoming video: deep dive into... scuba diving at Monterey Bay Aquarium, and how they incorporate 'crafting and innovation'
I know that anything with aquarium on it costs more, but the aquarium tax for snowflake food is ridiculous. I've been keeping shrimp for less than a year, so maybe other shrimp keepers already know about this cheap alternative to snowflake food, but in case you didn't -
After watching some YT shrimp keeper channels, I've been feeding my neocaridina colony snowflake food a couple of times a week. They like it and I was almost out, so I was looking at the bag and realized it only has one ingredient - soy hulls. I paid $12 for 3 1/2 ounces of snowflake food.
I thought there must be a cheaper source, so I looked online and found soy hull pellets for mushroom cultivation were 10 pounds for $20. The pellets are exactly the same size as the ones in the snowflake food bag, and my colony eats them just as eagerly.
Snowflake food: $3.70 an ounce.
Bulk organic soybean husks: $0.13 an ounce. 28x cheaper.

I really like my job because I have coworkers who do incredibly bad ass things. Like blackwater diving and culturing jellyfish.

I used to be ambivalent towards #guppies - though catfish remain my favorite #fish, the guppy group in my #aquarium is growing on me.
They are goofy but so stunning at the same time. It‘s crazy how an animal that looks like *that* is somehow deemed a basic and boring fish. Scarcity seems to play a role in how certain species are valued in the hobby.
Anyway, getting an aquarium has been one of the best decisions of my recent life, I can spend hours in front of that thing and not get bored.
Upps.
Das war zu viel Futter. Morgen ist wohl ein Wasserwechsel fällig.
Travel Trivia: The Monterey Bay Aquarium's main tank, called the Kuroshio Sea, has the largest acrylic glass panel in the world. This panel is 8.2 by 22.5 meters (27 by 74 feet) and is 60 centimeters (24 inches) thick. The main tank holds 7,500 cubic meters (1,981,000 US gallons) of water.

A very mediocre photo of my mediocre betta tank that I finally set up after the move. 10g/heated/filtered with fluval stratum substrate, root tabs for the Amazon sword and all my anubias tethered to driftwood and what not. Under a single bulb desk lamp.
I'll get a good photo once it's stabilized and after the inevitable diatom bloom and the plants have time to recover from being in a dark bucket for a few weeks!
Oh hey my work is hiring a CEO (not like it's not already the most sought after job in this space)
