@apc when it comes to stargazing, there's only one show that comes to my mind. Orb: On the Movement of the Earth was a stunning achievement over two cours that seemed to be overlooked by many anime fans. A show that wasn't afraid to (quite literally in some cases) burn through its protagonists, it had a clear message of hope and curiosity being essential for humans to find their place in the universe.

@apc, Stargazing? Ok!

Shinji Ogawa, Sakuya Fujitaka, Genjuro Kazanari, Miku Kohinata, Kuriyo Andou, Yumi Itaba, and Shiori Terashima gaze up at the surprisingly bright moon after a grueling day at Lydian Private Music Academy a little outside of Tokyo.

Miku, in particular, is overcome with emotion as a number of shooting stars soon streak across the night sky!

I have a few #AniMangaFoundIt runners-up as well, this time.

Since no one else picked either Gunsmith Cats or Riding Bean... well...

Automobiles are a Sonoda world, and we're just living in it.

Continued thread

And, finally, Ira Gamagori may be the head of Honnoji Academy's Disciplinary Committee, and have a sweet ride, and will soon be involved in battles for the fate of the entire world, but he's still only just learned how to drive...

And, as often happens, I had some runners up for #AniMangaFoundIt's Automobiles:

Starting with Carole & Tuesday. Desperate to get back to the final episode of Mars' Brightest, the singer songwriter duo hop a ride from this random old dude and his flame-painted future car!

@apc #animangafoundit Ah…the dreaded manual transmission. Momoka borrowed the van from a friend after they were invited to perform at another friend’s live house. Convinced that she can drive a manual but not succeeding, Tomo, Subaru and Nina voted that Rupa should take over instead. This allows them to get on their way and learn more about each other.

@apc It is time.... TO CAR!

There are a lot of iconic automobiles in the animangascape, but to me there was only one that meant CARRRRR.

Maybe I mean Rally or Bean's? Close! Because it is certainly within the realm of Kenichi Sonoda.

My first "anime" anime experience did not start with "car" but it definitely started with mecha and cute gorl and motorcycles and "defining what anime is" and a little episode called "Revenge Road" brought the mostest badasstest car that a 14-15y.o. dink could imagine.

So much it became a "class" in the anime-inspired PnPRPG I was inspired to start creating.

So much I can't even start with pictures, I have to start with video.

Why music videos? BECAUSE BGC!

I have a lot of things I want to post about, but since I'm away for the rest of the weekend, I'll have to get my #AnimangaPictureChallenge ( @apc ) entry in now! And I think I've picked the scene that @anicasts was hinting at...

This week's theme is "Automobiles", and I've picked the car (and its passengers) from Food For The Soul! The gang are out for a drive together, and due to an unfortunate navigation error, accidentally end up on the freeway!

This scene I think mimics a lot of people's first driving experiences on a motorway, albeit slightly more dramatically due to Shinon-chan's panic (and asking about whether they have insurance).

Food For The Soul was a nice, fluffy slice-of-life from earlier this year! Bonus screenshot of Shinon's pre-drive Car Safety Check!

@apc, my pick for Automobiles is: Sweet JP's TRANSAM 20000 from the #anime movie Redline.

This awesome yellow-orange hot rod is rendered in mind blowing, hand-drawn detail no matter if it's racing into the lead down a long straight after popping a nitro, power sliding its way through countless explosion during a race across the hostile planet of Roboworld, or sitting immobile after a frightening, fiery, end over end crash in order to illegally gamble on a last second loss.

@apc if you thought I was being clever last week with my 2-for-1 choice, this week could be the biggest crossover entry yet. I'm going for the four-wheeled catalyst of adventures, Truck-kun. There's far too many appearances of this Isekai kickstarter to list, so I'll go for the one that explores Truck-kun's motives. "No Longer Allowed In Another World" explains that Truck -kun is a divine intervention to help unhappy people start their lives anew.

This week's #AnimangaPictureChallenge ( @apc ) is "Trains"! And this week, I figured this was a common enough theme that I should find it in what I'm watching.

So my submission this week is all about Daikichi & Rin's struggle with the crowded Tokyo trains in Usagi Drop!

Daikichi took in Rin after her father - Daikichi's grandfather - passed away. Daikichi was faced with a sudden struggle of how to arrange daycare for Rin before work on Monday. He found one, but it required a commute on a busy train, with poor Rin crammed in the middle of all of the commuters. And at the end of the day, Daikichi had to run for the train after some unexpected overtime.

Of course, it's not all horrible experiences with trains. The pair manage to enjoy some of their travel too. :)

@apc I will spin this on a deeper thread some other time, about the work in which I #AniMangaFoundIt but I think the most-appropriate train sourcing here is an early 20th century work: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_on

It has had direct adaptations, indirect ones, odd ones…. It was the obvious inspiration for Galaxy Express 999, and for an unfinished novel discovered posthumously, it intrudes more often than you’d think into various manga and anime. Intriguing influence.

Most striking to me are two manga about acting, so they use a stage version; it starts the story if the excellent Kasane, and it forms the second major arc of Act-Age, and building up our heroine, Kei Yonagi.
